Even Wagner Thermoquiets China Made Now

I splurged on some "better" Wagner Thermoquiet rear shoes for my daughter's Taurus and was disappointed that they are now made in China.

Are Bendix shoes and pads made in China too?

GM has 3 levels of replacement brakes. Unfortunately, all the rotors are Chinese. The brake pads are made in the USA except for the economy line. Some of those are not made here.

I boycott them both. They are both junk and I would not trust them on my enemy's car, let alone mine. It disgusts me that this garbage gets sold here for often the same prices as domestic-made stuff.

That's what I don't understand about all this stuff made in China. If it's so much more cost effective for US businesses to have their products made in China, then why are they charging us the same price for those products? That should tell you right there that the story given by so many US companies claiming they must outsource their product in order to stay competitive is nothing but [censored]. The ONLY reason they do it is so they can pocket more profit. If that wasn't the reason, they'd pass the lower cost of the outsourced production down to the consumer....

I recently did an "made in the 1st World" brake job on my Saab. A pair of front rotors by ATE, made in Germany, and a set of Akebono pads, made in the USA

FYI,

Nearly every auto store in my area (big box to CarQuest) stocked and pushed the Taurus "white box" rear brake shoes at $15+/-. Oreilly's and AAP had the Wagner TQ shoes for $49 ($30 with AAP discount code).

All made in China. So, I agree with your observation, grampi. In retrospect, I almost want to start boycotting the China made, more expensive name brands.

I don't know about all Bendix brakes, but the CT-3s I bought recently were made in Canada.

I went through the same thing as you trying to avoid Chinese parts when I did my brakes. I ended up using Chinese rotors (Raybestos), because there were really no other options unless I wanted to pay 3x as much.

If you're interested in a specific product, email the company and ask where it's made. Every company I've emailed has told me.

Not that im happy about it but we have been using Raybestos/china rotors and drums for the last few years in our 55 vehicle fleet with no problems . Latley though we have been using "Gren" brand for our 1 ton chassis from our Federated supplier and they are excellent Qaulity and price, also chinese.

I avoid the Chinese stuff like the plague. Don't have as much of an issue with Mexican-sourced stuff. I've noticed a lot of the Motorcraft parts I buy from Ford are sourced from Mexico. Not happy about it, but it is better than China.

+1 on this.

In fairness, most chinse stuff is fairly high quality. When you look at electronics, anyway. Most brake rotors these days are made in china, with the exception of more expensive ones, like EBC. And despite that, they are still fine and work perfectly.

That being said, even though I love chinese food, I would prefer Mexico- and I would prefer a 1st world country above that. USA/Canada preferable, but at this point I'll take anything european.

I used the white-box Chinese rotors on my Cobalt but they warped in a matter of months. Deciding to try something that might be of better quality, I sprung for Raybestos "Premium" line rotors - at twice the cost. They too were Chinese. No warping in over a year, but here's the problem: one rotor was packed in its box minus its oily coating and protective plastic wrap, so it had a light coat of surface rust. I keep reading how "the Chinese can build products to any quality level that's specified", but I find it hard to believe that Raybestos specified random rotors to show up rusty and loose in their boxes! That's Chinese quality for you.

I doubt it - it came from Rockauto.com, both rotors in perfect, new boxes, identically sealed with tape. It would have been obvious if it had been opened previously. I used it anyway; had I bought it locally I would have returned it.

I've heard rare stories here and there of getting used parts from RockAuto, but the box would more than likely look opened, so nevermind. Interesting though.
