Eureka vacuum beater bar

I have 3 Eureka upright vacuums, one for each floor. I noticed on one the beater bar was turning but not properly. Upon taking it apart the belt was almost shredded but was still there, but about 1/2 the normal width. More oddly the part of the wooden beater bar that touches the belt was smooth mostly but a few areas were rough. Maybe the grain of the wood is making it rough. I am thinking these rough areas caused the belt to partially shred.

Ideas on why the beater bar got to this condition? I replaced the beater bar with one from my parts Eureka vacuum and tossed the one with rough spots.

Often long hairs will bind the brush from rolling freely and cause the rubber drive belt to slip and wear.

Ok. But in this case there are parts of the beater bar that touch the belt that are very rough like you scraped it with a rough wire brush.

How long have you had the vac? Belt is a 2 fer short money on EBay Just replaced it on the down stairs vac.
