This is a little off topic, but the other day I was mixing some battery acid with rubbing alcohol to see if I could make an ester. You definitely couldn't sell tickets to see the result. I next tried battery acid and methanol with the same boring results. I think the key work is "react". How does one "react" an acid with an alcohol to form an ester?

Glad to see interest in this topic. In esterification, you need the correct amount and concentration of acids and alcohols, catalysts, and a vacuum or nitrogen distillation unit.
