i have a bmw e38 with 5hp30 trans which is filled with esso lt 71141. it's hard for me to get lt 71141 in my area so i'm just wondering if there is any other fluid which is equivalent to lt 71141. thanks.
Yes. Redline D4 ATF. I have a 540i that uses Shell LA2634 ATF. Supposedly a "lifetime fluid
" The Redline D4 was the only alternative I could locate. If you email redline USA they'll tell you to use their D4 ATF. The Aussie Redline site has a chart for cross-ref different fluids including yours.
yeah its http://www.redlineoil.com.au/oil-finder.asp On the first chart select " Xref America's Most Popular" Second select " Oil Brand Xref." Third select "Auto Trans Oil ."
When I got this car I seriously doubt the ATF had ever been changed and the transmission had a harsh up shift but no TRANS PROGRAM error message. I drained and filled several times with the Redline D4 ATF and changed the filter and the car shifts better then ever. This was almost two years ago. I also do some pretty "spirited driving
" so I feel I test this cars ability pretty frequently.
I just did a drain and fill about two months ago and the fluid was cherry red in color. Redline makes some good stuff IMO.
