EPA vs CARB

Your truck has high miles, so if you do need a cat, I would go with the cheap one. Chances are you'll run the wheels off your truck before it the new cat dies.
Well...I actually decided I'm going to rebuild it. So putting a used/rebuilt engine in soon, gonna pull the transmission, etc. Otherwise, I wouldn't even sweat it. Fact is, for the same money that will turn this into a pretty nice ride I could barely afford to just by another vehicle that needs a bunch of stuff fixed.

Side note, I pulled the sensor voltages, it's 100% cat. Sensor 2 was zig zagging to say the least.

I suggest that you get the Walker EPA cat. I did just that after speaking to the Walker Engineering representative that warned me that Walker will not honor the 5 yr. CARB warranty unless you can produce a failed emissions test certificate for your vehicle from a licensed test facility in your state. That was 4 years ago and my Walker EPA cat has yet to throw any code.

More digging, Eastern is made in US, and they have a 5/50 instead of the minimum 2/25.

And it's cheaper than Walker. Hmm.

I've used Eastern before and had no issues but same w Walker, never an issue either. Go with the Eastern if cheaper

Yeah, they seem to be comps. On RA, Eastern is about 40 cheaper and as noted, a better warranty, so I'll roll the dice.

Plus it's made in PA, so that seems to be better odds of quality than chinesium...I think.

So... I have the fortune of a local muffler shop that is honest and good. So I can get a universal cut/weld/installed for 75-100 bucks.

What are some aftermarkets, even in the performance family, in the 300 range that could outperform/outlast a direct fit walker/eastern?

Looking at magnaflow hm. this would free up my budget to maybe add a resonator/better muffler.
