EPA - Gestapo Powers

I talked about this a little bit in another post and nobody wanted to hear about it. Pretty soon a lot of people especially in coal mining states are going to find out about all of this. They are going to try to eventually shut down the coal mines and coal power plants. This is going to be a big issue but few people have heard about it.
 
Wow. That's a bit extreme to check out mine water. That would have been scary to have been on the "receiving" end of that search.
 
Good riddance. Coal is not 'clean' power no matter what their lobbyist's and commercials say. Plus I've never heard of people being trapped underground in a solar/wind/nuclear/water plant.

*yawn* I'm sure that story had no hyperbole at all, also.

This is getting to be a big issue these days. The 9/11/2001 terrorists defeated the USA in a very important way - they made the American Government see its own citizenry as the Enemy. And the American public swallowed it all, hook, line, and sinker.

They mostly reacted to the 9-11 attacks with abject fear. Very different from the Greatest Generation, which after the Pearl Harbor attack only wanted to know this about the Japanese enemy: "Where are they?"

There is now more and more of this militarization of everyday government activity going on at State, Federal, and local levels. A few weeks ago I read of a SWAT team descending on a restaurant due to a dispute on whether their cooking equipment was up to code or not. So this nonsense in Alaska, with allegations of drug and human trafficking to make an excuse for this behavior, is not surprising.

The scary part is
8 people with guns and coats that say "police" on it show up at your gold mine..
are you going to think.. they are police or a robbery?
usually you dont send 8 armed people to check water.
think of the waste of money.

The para militarization of law enforcement at all levels is despicable.

I've personally seen a larger display of para military force than that in the linked article for food stamp violations, for crying out loud.

Any government agency that has the money for this kind of shenanigans, simply has too much money. When budget cuts are talked about, this should be really high on the list, if not the very top.

edit: and any government employee, who thinks this type of intimidating force is appropriate to use on citizens, should be fired on the spot.

Welcome to the new reality, every government agency has a SWAT team, even the department of Education.
 
Can you imagine what life would be like if intimidation happened to you personally on a regular basis?

Some sections of society have suffered from that for decades now but I suspect that many feel that is justified while other, sometimes far more minor incidents are not.
 
How is this thread not a violation of the forum's no politics rule?

This is scary - the police are practically bringing out the SWAT team to serve warrants on parking tickets. We really are turning into a police state and it's proof the terrorists won on 9/11 - they changed our way of life.

They were mining gold.

If you had gold at your place of business, in the wilderness, and a bunch of armed guys wearing body armor showed up, would you think "oh, hey, this is just an inspection on our water" or would you think, "we're about to be robbed at gunpoint"?

These are the environmental inspectors, so why do they need to be wearing body armor and flaunting guns?

The paramilitary approach might make sense when taking down a meth lab, but it doesn't make sense for an environmental inspection...

Usually their definition of politics is about which party to vote for, not complaining about government as we see here.

My 2 cents is, if an officer ask you to do something and you disagree, you still have to do it and then find a lawyer or news reporter to complain about it.

The fact that they have to send a swat team of 8 to check mine water mean that they have a prior history of people telling the officers to leave or point a gun at these officers. I may be bias and get thrown out of the jury for this, but the miners as a group (maybe not these particular miners) asked for it.

It's always been an organization founded on the principles of Fascism, the Gestapo tactics are a natural result of that.

Much more than scary, because it is VERY real. Read up on armed SWAT raids on homes, they are up dramatically in just the last few years.
