Nah, no dipstick tube on it

I didn't know BMW eliminate the dipstick tube 10 years ago, I thought that they did it 4-5 years ago. Bummer !

5 cars

BMW and Porsche are simple.

Grand Prix and excursion are easy.

But...my wife has an Audi Q7 3.6. It is the worst. I mean worst car to change oil. Filter canister on sideways halfway up the engine behind AC lines. Have to remove skid plate. Drain filter. Remove canister and spearte from filter in rder to be able to get it out. 10 oil change later and only takes 20 min but oil still gets everywhere.

2007 Camry, 2012 Civic. Both couldn't be simpler.

Every 5,000 miles I get to designate a Saturday or Sunday to head outside with a six-pack, put on the radio, change the oil, rotate the tires, inspect the car for any abnormalities, maybe drain and refill the ATF... and the wife is more than happy to stay inside and leave me alone while I do it.

I love changing the oil. :P

I like it a LOT. It's manly time, and alone time that I can check over my vehicles. I like to have them in absolute tip-top condition, do it myself, and save a few bucks in the process.

BITOG has made the experience better:

Better now that I have learned to use Fram Ultras for 2 OCI's - less cleanup. Better with synthetic motor oil for 7500+ miile intervals. Better now that I have the proper equipment and procedures that keep cleanup to a minimum. Better knowing I can source super-high-quality fluids & filters for way less than a Jiffy-Monkey service. Better knowing that I can keep my vehicle well within the maintenance intervals for ALL fluid replacements and general repairs. Better knowing that I can rely on myself for vehicle maintenance rather than pay dearly at the dealer. Best part is knowing I got a GREAT deal on the BEST fluids and filters after checking BITOG forums.

Doesn't hurt that I can hang out in my garage and have a couple of cold ones without the wife and kids all over me, every few months.

Both the Civic and Focus are sideways filters.

The Civic is really easy and there is a clear path from the filter to the drain tank I use.

The Focus requires you contort your arm to get a good angle on the filter. If its the slightest bit too tight, you can't get any sort of leverage to turn the filter unless you fight to get a filter tool up there. Once removed, it leaks all over an axle and other various parts on the way to the tank in a couple different streams.

The grand marquis is a walk in the park.

The Ram's oil filter is a pain. Gotta use a gallon zip lock bag over the filter to keep it from draining on the electric power steering pump. (Thank the Lord I checked on-line first, or I would've had a face full of oil)

In order:

Both Subies almost have enough space to not need ramps
'14 Outback: Filter on top, fumoto valve easily accessible
'99 Outback: Filter and valve in the normal underside
...
...
...
'01 MR2 is a Mudder-Fudder. Trans mounted "rear" engine with the drain and filter on the interior side of the engine. Oil filter is recessed. Low rear, can not use ramps and unless I install a lift, it ill always be a tight squeeze. TWO diaper shields to unbolt. The previous owner (more likely the quick-lube place they took it to) actually cut part of the diaper shield out, but I patched it.

[censored] that's a good idea for my Audi Q7. Something simple I wish I would have thought of. I now want to go home and change the oil on it to see if it works even though I just changes it a couple thousand miles ago.

ah...the dreadful oil filter location of a Honda K24. The oil filter location on my '13 Accord is 120% better, now sits at the bottom of the engine instead of the back facing the firewall.

Well here is a twist on this thread. Yes, I do enjoy changing the oil on our 2012 Nissan Versa. The catch? I was born legally blind. I can see but I can not drive the car on the road or anything. For me touch and feel is more important then seeing what I am doing. Sure I use light but I will normally use feel the remove/install the oil filter rather than try and see the threads. Drain plug is the same way. Black oil pan and black drain plug make for bad color contrast so I use feel for that as well. I pour pre-measured amount of oil into the car so I do not have to worry about finding the 4.5 quart mark from a 5 quart jug. I have been changing oil in cars on and off since 1987 and nothing has blown up yet.

I am looking forward to the next oil change in 250 miles or so.
