ok my 09 sonata 4 cylinder ticks for about 20 seconds like 3 to 4 times weekly on cold start its upper end never did till 1000 miles into oil change used 5 qts napa synthetic 5-20 with mobil 1 filter can only guess bad filter
I`ve wondered if the M1 filters are very restrictive? Only time I ever had startup tick was when I was using M1 filters. Never happened with Nissan,Fram,or Wix,and the same oils were being used.......Mobil 1 10W30 and 15W50.
That's a long time. A few seconds I might be able to blame it on the ADBV.. but 15 to 20? Your engine will have had full oil pressure for a little while, even with an empty filter.
I never had a problem with them. I don't like XOM, unfortunately from time to time the M1 filters are part of oil change specials. I've used M1 filters on and off for years w/o issue. Maybe the problem is application specific.
Been using Mobil 1 oil filters on my wife's 2005 Exploder with the 4.6 V8 for over 8,000 miles OCI's and have never heard a problem. The oil has been Mobil 1 0W-20, maybe that helps
. I begain using the Mobil 1 oil filters in my 1996 2.0 Zetec Contour with my remaining SL Schaeffers Supreme Blend 5w30 and it's been quiet at start up. It did have dry starts with the Fram orange can & Mobil 1 5w30 in the years past.
My 2009 Camry 4 cylinder takes 4.5 qts total fill. If it's the 2.4 it calls for 4.5, if it's the new 2.5 it calls for 4.75. I think your problem might be attributed to using a smaller filter than stock and slighty overfilling your crankcase. just my 2 cents.
My 04 Ranger with a 4.0l ticked liek crazy on startup with the M1. switched back to the motorcraft and it was fine. The M1 filter is fine on my silverado now though. Maybe its just certain cars. This isnt the first post I've seen about this.
If you have a Hyundai, stick to Hyundai filters. The same way when it comes to Subaru's. The Hyundai filters are built like tanks and are made inhouse.
