engine rpms

my 92 ranger with the 3.0 v6 is equipped the mazda built 5 speed manual transmission. it shifts fine. the problem is, when shifting from 3rd to 4th, and 4th to 5th, the engine rpms don't dip down between shifts when depressing the clutch as they do when i shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. there. is everyone confused yet? is this a transmission prob, or something like a throttle position sensor thing. clutch? penzdude. please help!

You can tell that the clutch plate is actually releasing from the flywheel? If so, hmmmmmm, something with the throttle!

Penzdude, look at the simple things first. Could it be the throttle linkage, return spring, or cable sticking? Try lubing the linkage and check to see if the cable is moving freely.

Hmmm, the shifts in to 2nd are more difficult (harder on the synchros, etc.) and are taking more time than shifting from 3rd to 4th and hence, the rpms have more time to fall? Just a hunch...

Some carbs have a decellerator valve which actually draws the rpm down. This is common on small engines like toyota,honda, and such. I belive it works on vacumm. Maybe at certain rpm ranges the valve isn't working, just a shot and thinking out loud here.
