engine oil extractor

have been thinking on getting a engine oil extractor, a manual pump one ( was looking at the CTA 7450 or Harbor Freight ones) , does anyone know if it would work on a 2024 2.0 Subaru cross trek, have looked at previous threads for specifics on this, will be pumping 0w-20 oil.
 
I recently purchased an oil extractor, a manual pump one with a 6L container. I used it for the first time the other day and all went well. Much easier than jacking up the car and crawling underneath. Glad I got it. Mine came from a local Oz auto parts store called Repco.
 
I have the MityVac and it works on my Civic for engine oil & trans fluid. It doesn't work on my Corvette or F-150 and not sure about the Rev 4. I do not know if it will work on a Subaru.
 
I have several oil extracters some are 20 bucks on Amazon,,I use a old 12 volt pump it’s difficult to get the correct hose to go down in the engine block
These new vehicles with the skid plate you have to remove on the bottom is a pain in the gas
 
The Harbor Freight check-out gal let me take the suction tube from their floor model for a test fit.
This is Volvo's 2.4l 5-cyl.
It didn't reach the bottom of the oil pan.

I tried fabricating an extractor using a 5 gallon pail, a vacuum pump and some tubing.
The only tubing I could find collapsed in use.
I got tired of looking for flexible, thin walled plastic tubing.

There some cars where any oil extractor will not work. I can't remember if it is restricted to model or year or to orifice size.
MytiVac is one of the best if not the best. I'd buy one with as many "hoses" as possible to suit different cars.
 
I've been 'thinking' about getting one for a while too. Watched a vid on doing a power steering flush and it looked so easy with an extractor. Years ago, encouraged son to buy bitog fave MityVac 7201. He really liked it for Audi oil change with top mounted cartridge oil filter, never touched drain plug. Since then, I now see many other lower priced options on Amazon and wonder how good they are. All that said, I don't know how applicable/useable with a Subaru. I'd think Subaru specific forums might give a better idea.

RIGHT , it’s a pain in the bass,to find the right tubing, idk 🤷‍♂️ if it’s worth all the effort
 
I use an extractor for oil changes on both my '21 Audi SQ5 Sportback, w/3.0L TFSI V6, and '23 Audi RS5 Coupe, w/2.9L Bi-Turbo V6.

It's helpful that both engines have a cartridge oil filter, and the filter housing sits at the top of the engine in the hot "V". Here's a pic taken when I was half-way through the installation of a cold-air intake on the RS5:

Since both engines have sensors for the oil level, they only have dipstick tubes with a plug on top. I just remove the plug and use one of the tubes from a 10L-capacity Bavarian Motorsports extractor, as these engines have 7.7L of capacity:

With warm oil, it takes no more than 5-10 minutes to pull all the oil out of the crankcase. With the oil filter access at the top of the engine, I can do a complete oil & filter change in under a 1/2 hr without jacking up the car, removing skid plates, installing new crush washers, etc.
 
I've had mine for 7 years and it use way more than I thought I would. My advice get the biggest you can afford 6 qurats is to small.
 
Mine is a 3 quart model from West Marine, about 5 years old.

When I finally kill it, I will buy a larger Mityvac.

I am able to use it on multiple Toyota for oil/ATF along with our boat motors.

I had to find a longer tube to do the ATF on my wife's GMC Sierra truck because the dipstick tube is really long. I used this 4x6 mm tube from Amazon to get the job done.

Extractors are good for oil, but really a brilliant way to easily drain & fill a transmission. I will never pay several hundred dollars for this service again.
