Engine oil additives

I am finding it very hard to purchase the VSOT. I have found two other products and need some advice. I have found the Molyslip E oil additive, which is said to be a suspension of, Moly of course. I have also found the Rislone oil treatment. I am currently running Mobil 1 5w30, and would mind to go "over the top"?

If you have to add an additive to your engine oil, you are using the wrong oil.

In the case of Mobil 1, you are not running a wrong oil. Just use it.

I find that some engines run better with oils with more moly. I usually add a bottle of Redline or Torco to my M1 fills and my engines always felt better then with M1 alone.

M1 is a great oil. I'll still use it and recommend it to everyone. It truly doesn't need any help!

If you want to bump the moly(along with zdp/ca), use the molyslip E. There is a VOA of it and you'll probably only need an ounce or 2 for each quart of oil to spike the moly.

Rislone is a engine cleaner. If your engine has good maintenance with a synthetic oil, isn't a sludge monster, and is cared for, you don't need Rislone.
Since you are up north, if you do grab Rislone during the winter, use the Winterstart or synthetic Truck/Suv products.

You get 300 ppm of moly (prod data sheet) in Maxlife along with a slug of PAO (per MSDS).

Maxlife Synthetic has 290 ppm moly (Prod data sheet) and the Valvo techs say it also has some PAO (MSDS not clear on that).

westcoaster I don't think you should worry so much about engine oil additives. A good quality motor oil has everything you n eed and I don't think it is wise to play chemist dumping all kinds of additives into oil.

The one product I personally believe in is Auto-RX, which has no effect on the oil but cleans the engine and keeps it clean. Otherwise I say leave the other stuff on the shelf.

For that matter, Mobil 1 will probably keep an engine clean enough and you could drive a long ways with nothing but oil.

I thought that Molyslip was made from the wrong type of Molybdenum? The kind that'll plug oil filters, destroy engines, etc?

you have that wonderful PAO Esso 0w30 HDEO with high TBN and long OCI's, lots of SL AW adds. An oil Mobil can only dream of ever making again.
All the oil your engine will ever need.
I pick up several cases every time I go north of the border, darn expensive $90 passport and long lines

That's pretty good. I may need to make the following adjustments though for my specific case:

Made a decision to turn our will and our vehicles over to the care of Maxlife motor oils as we understood them.

Were entirely ready to have Neutra 131 and SLOB remove all these defects of character.

Continued to take personal inventory of oils and additives and when we were wrong (i.e., bought non-Valvoline) promptly admitted it.

I have tried very few additives because I think most of them are useless with the exception of fuel system cleaners which seem to prolong the life of FI systems. What I have decided works best is spending my $$ on better oil and changing it more often. All these engine "cleaners" are bunk IMO and a complete waste of money. If your engine is sludged it is usually because you paid little attention to it and now expect some "genie in a bottle" to scrub the inside out when a quart of kero or diesel solvent will do about the same job. If you take all the $$ that people waste on additives and use the same amount of $$ to shorten OCI's with top shelf product.......you don't need the additives. So, like the guy once said...."pay me now or pay me later". But this is all just MHO.

To try to answer your question about where to get it, I have not seen it on any shelves here either.
So I checked ebay and found a sale for a half dozen bottles for $12 + shipping.

I think it might be a good thing to use (in moderation) say closer to the end of an OCI, when additives are more likely to be depleted. Or a new rebuild.

I've seen Molyslip E at Canadian Tire. Can't remember the price, but I remember thinking it seemed expensive.
