Engine Knock

I have a 99' Chevy Tracker with 150k on it. Its been in our family for the last 60k of its life. At idle in neutral, I hear what sounds like a lower end knock. When I give it some gas, it goes away. Is this a real bottom end knock, or does it sound like something else. I would think that a bottom end knock would sound the same all through the rev range and fluctuate with the RPM's
It has the 2.0L Suzuki engine if that helps at all.

Could have something to do with the [censored] timing chain components used.They are known for wearing out and jumping time.
Also check the wear block under the valve cover for wear or cracks.

lower end knock can go away with revs, but it normally goes away after the increased fuel has been withdrawn. I don't know why this is, but you can find youtube videos of lower end knock and probably half of them exhibit that phenomenon.

One thing that I sometimes use to tell if it's a rod knock is to stab the throttle down about 3/4 way real quick while in neutral. At initial tip in the knock will get a little louder before the oil pressure increases and the noise goes away.

Also, at first strat up in the morning doesit knock louder until the oil pressure comes up?

It could get heavier with more load, like lugging up a hill,a mechanics stethescope is a great tool for tracking down engine noise and they're cheap ,too.

It does not seem like a rod knock, given those noise producing circumstances..
Maybe a main bearing knock.

But most likely a timing chain system issue.

It doesn't sound like its coming from the front of the engine. SOunds like its from the bottom rear.

Manual or auto? If manual does the noise go away with the clutch in?

If Auto is the noise different in gear? Could the noise be coming from the TC or transmission?

Its a manual. Doesn't matter if clutch is in or out.
