My car has 282,050 kilometers on the odimeter. Is it safe to do an engine flush? My car failed Emissions Testing and my brother who is a licensed mechanic wants to an engine flush on my car.

Sure it should be safe.

Change the oil, but as or more importantly, change the PCV valve. Change the spark plugs if they are old too.

Good luck!

I don't see a correlation between failing an emission test and performing an engine flush as a remedy? The most possibly cause for failing emission testing is an ineffective catalytic converter, or a stuck EGR valve, or old oxygen sensors. Have those checked out first, before you start on an engine flush which likely won't help you pass.

If you post your emissions test numbers, what failed, etc. someone here could probaly point you in the right direction for a fix.

Oh, yes...make, model and year vehicle?

Right, it's "safe" but not what I would do pass emissions.....

An indicator would help of course, but if one is not available it would be:

- Tank with Amsoil PI

- New Plugs

- New PCV

- New Air filter

- Oil change

...and go from there.

And make sure the thermostat is working properly.
Also have the car at full operation temperature before test.
A good run in the contry(blow the carbon out) is a good idea too.

My car is a 1995 Saturn SL1 with 282,060 kilometers on it.
Here are the test results

ASM 2525 Curb Idle
Limit/reading/result - Limit/Reading/Result
HC ppm 75 115 Fail 200 198 Pass
CO % 0.42 4.23 Pass 1.00 0.50 Pass
NO ppm 576 1225 Fail N/A N/A N/A
RPM 1781 Valid RPM 751 Valid
Dilution 14.8 Valid Dilution 14.9 Valid

I would NOT do a flush, as it will not help and could damage the engine. If a flush is needed, then go with Auto-Rx. But better to find the real problem and solve it as others have mentioned.

Update!! My brother borrowed a friends code reader to hook up to my car and he has a catalytic converter on standby. He's not gonna do an engine flush just yet.
