My car has 282,050 kilometers on the odimeter. Is it safe to do an engine flush? My car failed Emissions Testing and my brother who is a licensed mechanic wants to an engine flush on my car.
I don't see a correlation between failing an emission test and performing an engine flush as a remedy? The most possibly cause for failing emission testing is an ineffective catalytic converter, or a stuck EGR valve, or old oxygen sensors. Have those checked out first, before you start on an engine flush which likely won't help you pass.
And make sure the thermostat is working properly.
Also have the car at full operation temperature before test.
A good run in the contry(blow the carbon out) is a good idea too.
I would NOT do a flush, as it will not help and could damage the engine. If a flush is needed, then go with Auto-Rx. But better to find the real problem and solve it as others have mentioned.
Update!! My brother borrowed a friends code reader to hook up to my car and he has a catalytic converter on standby. He's not gonna do an engine flush just yet.
