Or two filters of a poor design. I've cut up about a half dozen filters (with a pipe cutter) and have found wide variations in internal quality. I'm not trying to re-ignite another Fram=evil debate (some have good experiences with Fram, but the innards do look like crap), but some, including Fram, are put together such that I'd be very unsurprised if their ADBV was incontinent. Try a Champion Labs filter, they all look very solid. They include Mobil-1, Bosch Premium, STP, and a few others I can't recall at the moment. Sorry, but I never got around to dissecting a Motorcraft. . .
