engine braking leading to oil consumption?

Correct, it's in my subaru forester (08) manual. Says not using engine breaking can be dangerous in a 5mt under certain circumstances.

One of my owners manuals even went to the trouble of explaining the sensible soaking up of the energy with the engine instead of dissipating it in heat using the brakes. I think it was in my 76 Chevette's owners manual.

Unless these people are hypermiling, I've never seen such a big natural consensus of not using the engine to soak up this energy. About the only thing I'd say that I've seen in variance (over my 36 years of driving) is that some will actually try to get 1st gear integrated into the process, where 2nd usually works best until a full stop is achieved.

Before you start correcting other people's spelling, try correcting yours first.

.

I guess it's becoming more and more common on this board, when someone can't present logical arguments anymore; they start personal attacks.

Anytime..

We're on a stage here. Each post is your time on the soap box. You can feel misunderstood or that you didn't get your "complete" point across and need to correct it. OTOH, sometimes you just miscue and feel the need for some form of damage control.
