I'm guilty of using a lot of products under the hood. And it can take a lot to clean an engine bay that is a decade old with over 100,000 miles. But, if you pop the hood once in a while and start fresh then you probably do not need much more than a nice cloth and water because the sun and UV rays don't get to the engine bay.
It's quite amazing. I used to think heat did all the destruction of an automobile, but there is something in the sun's light/rays that not only feeds the plant's chlorophyll, but also dulls and dries out a lot of things.
