Don't worry, Larry. I think this forum can handle you just fine.

I think I see what's happened.

He's read the Oil University and Dr Haas and wants to use thinner oils in his bike.

But I think he's missed the part where Dr Haas said that while he would use a 5w20 when driving his Lambo or Ferrari around town, he would still recommend using the heavier xw40/50 oils if he was racing because then he would reach engine temps that required that oil.

Goes to prove that a little bit of knowledge is dangerous.

Don`t get it? Spend a bit of time looking through some posts on the Speedzilla site and it will all become blatantly obvious.....

Let`s just say it`s not mere coincidence that many, many members of that forum have him on Ignore....

Enough said.......

Stick around, it gets better, believe me...... you`ve been warned......

Indeed. It wasn`t always that way. While it would be unfair and inappropriate to lay the blame for this unraveling on one person, the omni-present delusional diatribe of a certain member has certainly contributed in a hugely disproportionate manner to said slide.... Vicious circles always begin somewhere.......

Last comment (re: state of the Speedzilla site). The absence of a moderator inevitably led to a snowball effect. Had things gotten nipped in the bud early on, we surely wouldn`t be where we are today.

That looks like what happened for sure. Im glad all the forums i go on would not allow the first page to be filled if the content were remotely the same as that one. I see alot of personal attacks on some forums and that is just not what a forum is about. I guess thats why BITOG is a informational and friendly place to go.

I have to comment on the thread on that site in regards to what the guy was doing. Film strength is not 100% determined by viscosity and temps with a good syn will not have as big effect with film strength unless were talking about metal melting oil temps. So With that said and he had a oil cooler or even a means of measuring temp and pressure he could make his engine last as long or longer than one with a heavier weight oil in it.

So i guess with all the temps and pressures known and that thinner oil takes more heat away from the engine he could actually be doing more good than harm if the oil was doing its job and he was monitoring and knowing what was happening.

Not a dumb move if you had all the variables figured out and a couple UOA's were done to make sure the wear metals were in check.

And a 30wt is not much thinner than a 40wt. Isnt it about 10% so were not talking about much of a difference anyway. Besides all of that its his machine and he could run cat poop in the sump if he wanted. If he is not full of it it sounds like he is an alright guy and from what his bike mods are (the ones that him or his shop did) they do seem pretty cool and i would like to see a guy like that on this forum.

No doubt a very gifted machinist and quite knowledgeable in many respects. If there was just a way (some way,.... any way!!!!) of getting the record to stop skipping, all would be well....
