Just so it's clear... Formula 1 engines do no use pneumatics to actuate the valve. The valve is still actuated with a traditional camshaft. Pneumatics close the valve, taking the place of the valve spring.
ducatti has been using the desmodromic design like the decuir guys for a while now, im not sure if it really peaked the overall efficiency except for high rpms, and if you're turning high rpm's then obviously you're not trying to be efficient in the first place
