Edmunds has introduced a rating system for the cars that they've reviewed. Some of the rating criteria include performance, comfort, interior, value, and fun to drive factors.

They've ranked many new as well as some used cars.

Not saying this is objective by any means, but just another data point for someone who is car shopping...

It is what I expected very few D's.

Chrysler cars seems to maintain consistency owning the C category which has been my rental car experience for 20 years.

Yeah, I've only found one "D" in the new cars, given to Mitsu Mirage. Otherwise, mostly A and B ratings. However, the overall rating isn't that useful. It's the individual sub-ratings that may be of more value if you're looking for something specific such as performance or comfort.

Ratings schmatings......

I think all car buying is the luck of the draw. which is why I am buying CPO with 30-40,000 miles only. The vast majority of lemons rear their ugly heads by 30k. Dealers won't certify a lemon. Then since I plant to drive it to 200k...it has already been completely road tested and the first owner has paid all the heavy depreciation.

The Ford Explorer and Mazda CX-9 have the exact same warranty (3 yr/36k bumper to bumper and 5/60 powertrain) and the Ex. got a C and the CX-9 a B. And they are competitors in the same class of vehicle.

That leads me to think that these ratings are no more than opinion. And invalid opinion at that.
