Just like title says, when I was young, it seemed that the EDMONTON OILERS could'nt ever be stopped. Fast forward to now, what the he** happened?! I used to just be awestruck with Jarri Kuri, Gretzky, Grant Fuhr etc. Let me hear what you guys remember about the OILERS and dynasty teams.

thanks

Adam

Edmonton has a good, fast, young team. Salary cap has pretty much ended the dynasty teams of long ago. I remember the how good the New York Isanders of the early 80s were and the Montreal Canadians of the 70s.

Yeah, my grandpa remembers how hot the Canadiens of the 50's were winning 5 straight from 56' to 60

I miss the dynasty teams and how powerful teams were then.

LEAFS, are ya kidding me? The last time they went to the Stanley Cup and won was like 1967 and to the Canadiens. Maybe in 2 decades they will be better.

Andy Moog was my idol during that era. But once the team matured the payroll was unmanageable. Gretzky engineered, brokered and negotiated his own trade.
He brought hockey to hot western states, popularizing it when only basketball and football had the sports markets wrapped up.
When the rangers absorbed most of the oilers and glen sather it was cool to see superstars nearing the end still able to tough out a cup against faster, stronger teams.
What's the saying....experience and treachery beats youth and vigour every time. Hehehe.

Right. Like the soap opera dynasty er........
What funny is leaf fans keep that team the highest grossing in the league and the schleps can't even get into the play-offs. The last good team they put on the ice was the Gilmour Andrechuk days. Good old Wendel is still a legend.
Marty McSorley looked like he got hit by a bus when Clark and him dropped the gloves. And Wendel looked like he was going on a date after that fight,McSorley looked like he needed a surgeon.
Glory days man,long gone.

Andy Moog! Followed him through the Stars years...still my fave goalie!

I still miss the Winnipeg Jets (the real Jets, from when I lived there in 1972...not the new ones) and the Hartford Whalers...

I remember the QUEBEC NORDIQUES; a.k.a the COLORADO AVALANCHE and when the NJ DEVILS wore green and red.

Anyone here remember what happened to Dennis Potvin; Captain of the NY ISLANDERS in their heyday? Cant find much of him, but the classic picture of him with full beard hoisting the cup is awesome in my book. I am surprised Jacques Lemaire stuck around with the NJ DEVILS for so long too.

I've got my bruins shrine in my basement with moog,Neely and bourque among others hanging on the wall.
My dad was at the Stanley cup winning game when the wings beat Philly. He comes home with a new Moog jersey for me. A HABS ONE!
Now what exactly am I supposed to do with that. Blasphemy I say.
Apperenly Moog got traded to Montreal at the end of his career and retired in Montreal.
It still hurts.

Makes me laugh. The season that they leave Quebec they win the cup. Like come on.
I hate the guy but I'm a goalie and I gotta give credit where its due and Patrick Roy is the best goalie to ever strap on the pads. That guy could single handedly win games for team. Heck his rookie year he won the cup for the derelict HABS. The team in front of him sucked but he would make key saves and the team only needed to score 1 goal to win.
Hasek was something else too. That guy could bend in was that the mere thought of sends pain through my body. Guy had a spine similar to gumbi

Yeah, CLEVY I will admit that ROY was one he** of a goalie, I always liked BRODEUR and ROY a lot. HASEK got old, but I knew he was better than OSGOOD. Kinda odd that THRASHERS aint around now and the WINNIPEG JETS are back; but they arent that good. I thought that the JETS would be loaded with great talent instead of just havin Bufeglin(dont know how to spell his last name)

I'm a big fan of Roy and it sucked to see him leave the Habs (who are my favourite team). I was in grade 8 in 1993 when the Habs won the 2nd cup with him in net.

Canadiens won the cup in both 1986 and 1993 with Roy. And with him in net, it was the last time they've won the cup

Takes time. I just hope Winnipeg can support the team and prove bettman wrong. He is the worst thing to happen to the game. It's a business to him. No soul.

Grade 8 in 93. Born in 1980ish
I feel old.
Anyways the HABS had won a cup in every decade since hockey started, except the 2000s. I was sad to see the streak die.
On a lighter note my bruins won a cup in my lifetime.
Woohoo

One of my favorite players. I have a signed Roy picture on my Habs wall of fame in my basement. I met the Rocket just before he passed away and was lucky to get an autograph.
