Yes, either. Also capable are PP, PU, M1, and Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

Castrol Edge is guaranteed for 15,000 miles or 1 year. Some used oil analysis here have shown some question if it can go that long. I use it in my Corvette, but go by my OLM.

Most synthetics can do 10,000 miles in most cars.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance is a proven 15,000 mile oil, I would use that.

Pennzoil Ultra is proving to be a really good oil by it's used oil analysis also.

Looking for an oil recommendation? The BITOG community would love to help you find a good oil for YOUR vehicle and YOUR habits. Sometimes we can also help you find an oil to address a problem you might be having, such as oil consumption. Here's how to make a post that will help us zero in on your best option.

First, remember one thing:

There is no "best" oil!

This question comes up frequently. Everyone has their own personal favorites, but there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all oil, or a best oil "overall". Every engine is different. Every oil has its place. What works for one engine might not work for another.

So, when you ask for advice, tell us about your car! The more details, the better. Here are the essential points:

1. What kind of vehicle you have
2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well
3. Where you live
4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)
6. Whether your car has any known problems

If you have any preferences -- synthetic vs. conventional, store-bought vs. ordered online, how long you'd like to go between oil changes, etc. -- or any other info you think might be important, let us know that as well.

Once again, the more details, the better. BITOG loves a good oil recommendation thread, especially when you give us a lot to work with.

Welcome to BITOG. See you in the forum!

Without this info, ANY comments or suggestions are just a GUESS.

I'd rather use something on FACTS, not a GUESS....

edge is an extended drain oil (15,000 miles) but thats best if you do mainly highway miles. given the two i would choose the edge because it is both somewhat cheaper and easier to come by because it is sold in 5qt jugs at walmart.

edge is my personal favorite oil, runs the best of anything ive tried in my eclipse. tahoe will probably like it too.

Edge should be cheaper and perform just about as well. That would be my choice if i only had the two.

I have also said before i am more partial to Royal Purple filters than their oil because i know they make quality filters based on them being taken apart and how they have shown them being made.

thanks, im not interested in using PU because i currently am running it in my jeep and i dont feel that it is worth the extra $$ over m1, plus pennzoil is very adamant about not exceeding the manufactures recommended oci, witch seems silly because they claim it is the best syn oil.

If you compare the claims of PU and oils like EDGE and Mobil 1 Extended Performance, they are essentially the same. All of them claim they can withstand 15,000 miles in cars that have OEM OCIs set at 15k. EDGE and Mobil 1 Extended Performance have fine print that recommend the OEM OCI over the 15k if the OEM OCI is shorter. For this reason, the new flavors of EDGE no longer claim 15k

I don't think this makes SOPUS the worse company

will do, i wish it was a turbo. where do i get them?

If you have the wrap around header the LAST thing I'd do is put on a longer filter.

Edge. I say that as someone currently running RP 0w40. I've ran quite a few oils so far and of them all, Edge has been the smoothest/quietest. But I really like trying all kinds of oils. I've ran Mobil 1, Mobil 1-HM (liked this one too), Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy (another 1 I like), PP, GTX, PU, Edge, RP, RL, GC, SynPwr (also liked this one) and I'm probably forgetting a few. lol. But I've pretty much now decided after all of these of going back to Edge as my go-to oil (when on sale). Having said all that, Bill's post above (4th post) is your answer (err question). :P

And I'm not saying RP is not a great oil too btw. But just tossing out my vote. I'm planning on stocking up on Edge tomorrow with the O'Reilly's special which is Edge and Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter (a great filter) to supply pretty much every vehicle in my signature, other than the Focus, which will be sticking with Mobil 1 5w20 as that car loves it.

I'd go with Castrol EDGE. I ran RP many years ago for a brief period of time, it was good. Having made a few changes in oil brands recently I've found Castrol EDGE 0W20 and 5W30 to be quite good in the two applications I'm using it in.

I've mentioned before a more quiet running engine in both vehicles. It seems others are having similar comments. I scored 10 qts today at a very good price, and if I can continue to do so I'll be sticking with it.
