I cut open this filter yesterday. I ran it on my wife's 2015 Nissan Altima for 6,050 miles with Valvoline Synthetic 0w20. I replaced with another Ecogard and 5 qts of SuperTech 0w20

Thank you dad & WELCOME from one Rochesterian to another.
All of the Ecogard filters pics that I have seen, look quite good. I am assuming that they're a le$$er expensive filter?

Thanks for the cp.
I have a bunch of these and the longer version.
I have cut open some new ones looking for rust but so far they looked good.

Yes, Rock Auto had these for $1.41, so I stocked up.

Nice even pleats. The Chinese made filters seem to look good, they care I guess what comes out of the assembly line. But chrome doesn't mean the material underneath is good. I have an issue with their marketing, they make it seem like the synthetic blend filter is all synthetic, and using Eco in the name for no other reason except marketing. Nothing Eco about them.

Or, what is more likely, is that they are simply muscling quality with manual inspection since labor is so cheap. I've heard that in the glass container industry in China 100% hand-inspects every single container before it goes into the box. Here in the 'States we use a statistical sampling to determine a majority of the quality calls. It could just be they have an efficiency of 50% "good" filters, and the 50% bad are scrap, since they're paying pennies on the dollar for materials and labor. Nobody except the Chinese know the truth...

Glad to hear since I installed one yesterday along with some Valvoline white bottle 5w30. Thank you for posting.

I agree. Made in China really depends on the process of assembly and quality control, just as it would anywhere. Apple iPhones are considered top quality and the QA shows.

Yep. They are both very good quality.

I wonder if PG actually made this Ecogard??? Maybe not.. but it could be a possibility??

That's true. Also the mentality of the workers. The harsh apprenticeships in the days of old made workers skilled and observant, artists really. Now here in the USA we have that but probably not on making oil filters. We still make many of the world's finest products. Even if we have a person looking at every oil filter, they have to have the training and discipline to do the job. I think today it is harder and harder to find skilled observant workers. Everyone is looking at a screen. Anyone can do that. If I was on the Puro assembly line as someone in charge those pleats would be tight just like the Chinese. Not bragging, it's just how I had to work in my career. You see wide pleats, you fix it, find the solution, you care.
