Just curious if anyone has seen this. Just thought it was interesting. I did a search and couldn't find it on here.

I wish other manufactures would do studies as well. Would make for some good conversations on here, not like there isn't any now.

Echo String Trimmer Tech Study

Those pistons look horrible. I've taken apart an engine using cheap oil from Autozone And the piston looked brand new.

Heh....just "use Amsoil" and your equipement will outlast you Bull...

I have a Echo weed wacker that is 12-14 years old. Runs very well on Amsoil Saber oil at 50:1. Starts well with very little smoke, and doesn't seem to have lost any power at all.

And I have a WeedEater-Poulan cheapie about 25 years old that runs like a champ at 32:1 on home brew 50/50 TCW3 and Motul. Smokes real good and keeps the mosquitoes at bay.

I like 2-stroke smoke. If it wasn't so hard to deal with after the fact, I'd run bean oil - gotta love that smell

Like my old chain saws, if it ain't smokin, it ain't right

I ran 80--to 100 to one Amsoil on my Red Max Blowers and wips and heck i had one blower that lasted 15 years till it got stolen. I have had good luck with it. we cut about 80 yards a week.

Because this was published on Amsoil web-site i have my doubts. However, it does seem more likely that more deposits would remain when running non full synthetic I care far more about oil certification than I do brand name. I have recently been running VP 2cycle oil pre-mix bottles [2.6 oz] that you can now buy at Walmart. It's full synthetic and JASO-FD certified and is a great oil for the money, something like $2/2.6oz. It has the certification # on the bottle. Amsoil is NOT JASO-FD certified. I'm sure Amsoil is fine, but it give me a little more comfort to run something that is certified. Also, I still run my stuff at manufactures ratios, which is normally 50:1.

did they have 300 hours on it? 300 hours on a trimmer is quite a bit.

My wife bought me a New Echo weed trimmer for Christmas. I am running the Echo powerblend it came with at 50:1 for the first gallon then I am going to Sea and Snow 40:1 for the rest of it's life. I run 32:1 in my Lawnboys. If it gets that fine too. I love the smoke.

Amsoil Saber meets the JASO-FD spec, its on their bottle and their brochures and they have run the Echo test with both 100-1 and 50-1 in separate reports. A friend of mine uses the Saber at 80-1 in his landscape business in all his Stihl equipment, he says its the best he's ever used. No smoke up against buildings with trimmers, not replacing spark plugs, or cleaning exhaust screens until the end of the year, he loves it.

Excellent choice love Sea&Snow at 40:1 in everything and all types of equipment all run very hard.

Amsoil is not Jaso fd certified. Look closely at the bottle, it says something like "use where Jaso fd is recommended. It is not certified. If it was they would publish the Certification # on the bottle. All other Jaso fd certified oils will have a certification number, for example, Vp, echo power blend, Husky low smoke, etc. Most of these oils are semi synthetic, but VP is one of the few 2 stroke oils I have found that is full synthetic and Jaso fd certified.

You dont "need" any 'certification number' to use any lube, if you trust the manufacturer of that lube. That's why they publish the requirements of a spec like JASO or Dexos, so that a lube maker can build a product to meet that spec. Not having some 'certification' number does not mean the lube is inferior. Same with Dexos and other such labels. Most folks will do their homework and trust that a lube maker's product that "meets specs" are just as good if not better than another lube with a special number on the label. If the lube maker like Amsoil warrants their oil to "meet the spec" that should be good enough for the folks.

If your running new equipment, and for example, using Red-Max stuff, using oil that is not certified/registered JASO-FD will void your warranty upon failure that can be attributed to oil. This is clear in the user manual. I would go so far as to say that even if the failure was not directly related to improper oil, or the cause of failure is unknown, they may chose to deny the claim if they became aware you were using oil that is not registered JASO_FD, such as Amsoil. I agree there is an element of trust. Of course there is enough anecdotal evidence that Amsoil is fine, but it just doesn't give me the same warm and fuzzy that running an oil with a certification does. Everyone has an...opinion, which makes for great dialogue.

I'm not sure if lube maker like Amsoil warranties the oil to meet JASO-FD if there was a dispute or claim for a new piece of equipment. If you run into problems, my opinion would be that Red-max would tell you that you used the wrong oil and Amsoil would likely tell you its a manufacture issue or improperly used oil. ----> <-----

this test is flawed i have ran echo oil for years with out problem burning 5-6 gallons of mix per week during the mowing season.
they didn't properly tune the engine and allow it to break in properly.

I agree. There is no way that Echo power blend created that amount of deposits on a properly tuned engine in 300 hours. Test like these can easily be tampered with. Were both engines ran at idle for 300 hours. At full throttle? At half throttle?
