Sounds like you may have a bad primer bulb so replace it and the hose if it has one... to rule that out.


Right. If the primer bulb is not picking up gas, or not easily, there's an air leak in the bulb or fuel line. That also jives with the fact it won't stay running, it can't get gas quickly enough.

Just went through this. My primer ball would not draw unless return line was below level in tank. Then would only run for a few seconds. I had the lines reversed at the carb. The larger nipple is the fuel intake for the seemingly smaller black hose with the filter on it. The yellow/clear return line that stubs into tank goes to the smaller nipple. Return line looks bigger than intake.
