Right. He may be lying & trying to get this for free. Next time you talk/e-mail with Ebay, you may want to bring this up as a question or statement.

One possibility that hasn't been addressed is that the USPS did NOT actually deliver the package. They say they have documentation, but that is produced by the person on the route, and can be falsified. Producing the documentation and actually delivering the package are not necessarily related.

I was on the receiving end of this once. Was at home and happened to see the postman go to the box on a day I was expecting a package. Walked immediately over, with no intervening time when the box was out of my sight, and picked up the mail. Happened to check the tracking that day, which said the package had been put in the mailbox that day. I know for a fact that it was not. I had paid for insurance, and Ebay stood by the seller. The insurance was useless. As said before, the only foolproof way to go is signed proof of receipt.

Nothing you can do at this point. One of many reasons I don't sell on eBay anymore. 99 times out of 100 they'll side with the buyer in a claim, regardless whats actually happened. Sadly, you just got scammed out of an amp.

A $50 package should`ve been sent where it requires a signature for delivery. I`ve had a package stolen from my mailbox that had USPS delivery confirmation. Most Ebay sellers I`ve bought from where the value of the item exceeds $50 either require that or insurance.

ALWAYS send it requiring a signature on delivery when it`s something that expensive.

Look at the buyer`s feedback also. That way you can see if he has any negatives relating to the same issue you`re having.

^^This

eBay requires signature confirmation on items over $150 or $250 (cant remember)

If you buyer says they didn't receive the item over that limit and you didn't send it signature confirmation, you are screwed.

It use to be buyer beware now it sellers beware.

Just a FYI so you are covered in future, If it sells for $200 or more, you need to request a signature, to be covered by paypal. I like printing labels through them its cheaper, quick & keeps record of it. Keep a record, of tracking number for 90 plus days cause some credit cards give customers 45, 90 plus days to file so in 45 days when you haven't heard any complaint thinking all is well. Yo can still get a claim filed against paypal & you.

Having 50, 400 or whatever come out an account can be a surprise casue paypal will withhold til they can resolve it. It them against the Credit card & they need all proof they can get from you to help prove it was delivered, etc...

The buyer sent me another Ebay message today. He says he has been going round and round with the Post Office where he lives and he can pursue the USPS insurance claim on his end as the addressee. I gave him some additional info he asked for and let him know that I have not transferred his Paypal payment to my bank yet. I want to give him time to get this resolved on his end first. Maybe, just maybe he can get some kind of reimbursement and it may work out OK for both of us. Given this last message he sent, I really don't think he is lying. I will help him with the insurance claim if I can.

Too quick to accuse the buyer was lying.

I never said he was lying. I said in one post if he does nothing after I asked him to file a Police report then I would think he may be lying. That is not the same as accusing him of actually lying about this problem. I have no way to know for sure if he is telling the truth, but my saying he may be lying is not the same as outright accusing him of it.

He has sent me another Ebay message tonight saying he appreciated the address info I gave him for his insurance claim. He also said for me to go ahead and transfer the money from Paypal to my bank, that he has no intentions of filing any claims against me. This makes me believe he is being honest about the whole situation, but it is impossible for me to know exactly what happened up in Georgia. He said in his latest message that understands he has to handle this himself because I already did my part by shipping the amp. I do feel sorry for him and I hope he gets some kind of reimbursement.

I am still going to sit on the Paypal deposit for a few days just to be on the safe side. I also owe him $3.10 for the difference in shipping. Ebay made him pay $14.95, my actual cost for 2-day Priority Mail was only $11.85. I will make sure he gets his change back.

Ebay tends to favor the buyer, sleezeballs know this.
I found out the hard way. I will never sell anything on Ebay again.

This. OP, it doens't matter if you pull the money out of your paypal account. If paypal wants it, they'll just snatch it back out of your bank account.

It's called fleabay for a reason.
A place where buyers and sellers can scam one another.
Been there, done that, not going back.

What if you unlink/remove your bank account from Paypal? I know Paypal keeps your bank info after you remove it; I wonder if they can still snatch the money from you?

I sure hope I don't have to unlink my bank account from Paypal. I use Paypal for buying parts at AAP with their discount codes. I will just leave the money in my Paypal account until this thing is resolved. I want to believe the buyer is being honest about this problem, and I want to give it time to be resolved to his satisfaction before I transfer the Paypal funds.

I have not sold much on Ebay, I only have maybe 10 or 12 transactions in the last 4 years and had no problems with any of them. I do have one more item to sell on Ebay, it's a Sony car radio/CD player. I bought it at Best Buy a few months ago, it broke and Best Buy will not repair or exchange it; they told me to contact Sony directly. Sony told me to ship it to their warranty center in Texas. I shipped it via UPS, let's just hope Sony received it.. Sony will either fix it or replace it with a new one and ship it back to me. Then I will list it for sale on Ebay. I have since bought a Pioneer CD deck and don't really want another Sony. Once I sell the Sony I doubt I will use Ebay very much in the future.

Yup. Just like a company that has your CC on file can issue a refund to an expired card, you'll get a notice from the bank stating that you have an unpaid balance.

List it on Amazon instead. FAR less painfull.

Good for you Jimmy. It really sounds like you both are pretty reasonable folks- it's nice to know that there are still a few around.

As others have said, this could have gone way south in a hurry, but in this case, the buyer realized it was his responsibility to do the leg work to find the "delivered" package.
