Now ebay suggest the vendor should roll the shipping cost into the price off the item because buyer's expect free shipping!!! How is it free and how are the buyer's so dumb they cant figure the shipping cost is hidden in the price for the item??? The real reasen ebay wants the vendor to figger the shipping cost into sale price is because ebay get's a hefty cut off the sale price but not off seperately charged shipping cost!!! Another resent change that bug's me is that now the vendor's can't charge there customer for insurance. Insurance MUST be figgered into the sales price if offered and ebay get's thus a cut!!! That is NOT FAIRE!! Unless your a power vendor with dozend's or more sales everyday I dont see how selling on ebay is still worth it??

That sucks. Somebody needs to make a competitive site that is like ebay was 10 years ago.
Its too bad,ebay use to have lots of private sellers,now it seems saturated with these small time shady operators peddling cheap junk.
Agree on both. Ebay is getting too expensive to sell small items that I've not been posting anything cheap (less than $40) on it.
They used to be the place to go when you want to order an adapter or cable, now I do most of my small order (even a fridge yesterday) on craigslist.

I have been a member on ebay for ten years with hundred's off sales!! Where am I going to take my stuff thats not suitible for craigslist or amazone?? the one advantage ebay offer's is exposure. Nobody is going to even look for what I sell on craiglist or amazone!!

I've been getting [censored] with Ebay because they would hold my money on most items I sell(im a techie, mostly electronics get held), until the buyer receives the item and leaves me feedback. I like Ebay. Sure they clip you a bit for a %. But you also get pretty good protection that you don't get anywhere else.

I gave up on EBAY for finding deals and buy from Amazon dealers.
I left E-Bay a long time ago when I had a fight with a customer service rep complaining that a guy was charging $35 for shipping on a $1.00 item which was a wire adapter and should have cost $5 at most (being generous).
I explained that it was wasting my time to have to keep contacting sellers before bidding and making for a slow horrible experience and that he/she should charge reasonable shipping rates and list the item for the cost of it instead of hiding it in the shipping to get around listing fees from E-Bay.
I was told I was wrong and that there was nothing they could do. Since then I refuse to purchase anything on E-Bay or sell anything.
They can bite me!
It's not a deal anymore anyways... Everyone wants top dollar for a lot of the junk on there.

Used auto parts are best sold in a store format, what if someone doesn't need your dingus in the 10-30 days of an auction listing? Then you've listed something and paid all those fees for nothing! New parts are good too; found new carb boots and rear brake shoes for a 1982 Yamaha motorcycle there that a brick and mortar store was too lazy to carry. "We can order them" yeah well so can I!
They still have their place for selling stuff; invariably police radio scanners I can get for $2-5 at yard sales go for $30-60. As someone said the exposure is worth something, even at a 10% cut after all the paypal fees etc it's still worthwhile. If you get 10% more against yahoo auctions or ubid or whatever competition it is it's still worthwhile! You can buy stock in them and get a piece of the profits. Check a local licensed auctioneer for estate sales etc, they get 20-30%!
Some sellers don't get it though; I see lots of single Fram oil filters for sale for $4 plus $4 shipping!! Unless someone local wants one the seller just blew the listing fee.
Ebay has a "price plus shipping" sort so I do agree there's no reason to require "free shipping"; they should give a bonus to the seller like a reduced % cut. It does catch the bidders eye and say "this guy wants my business"-- Amazon does it a lot.

Ebay is pretty beat. I've only sold one item and it wasn't worth it. All the stuff I bought I bought at salvage. Not much left to buy at those prices anymore. The new search format sucks more than it helped. I continually gave them feedback to grab the clown that came up with it and force them against a hard object ..repeatedly. They somehow thought they could "re-image" themselves into more revenue using pastel colors.

One time I send money to a guy who sold me item on anandtech. Instead of charging me like a regular merchant would charge my credit card, they avoid the merchant fee by using balance transfer (or instant withdraw). That cost me $10 and interest. I complain to them and they flat out telling me to go talk to my credit card company instead and go XXXX myself.
Now, I intentionally cancel local trade and have the seller contact me afterward for a local transaction, cutting ebay's half.com out of my profit loop.
I'll even do it without any additional profit to me, just to [censored] ebay INC off.

That's one of the problems with emerging markets that expand tremendously. When they no longer do so, they think that they're doing something wrong that needs to be fixed. So they tweak a functional model trying to get blood from a stone ..instead of just finding the next emerging revolutionary market.
