eBay car part shipping problems

I ordered an inexpensive car part from a seller on ebay.

They used an off brand shipper. The shipper refused to deliver on a dirt road. I went rounds with their idiot driver by txt.

I told the seller that I didn't want to deal with the shipper again and just return the part.

They gave me a refund. I never saw the part.

A week later the part was delivered .

I contacted the seller and told them it had showed up after they had issued the return.

They said they would send out a tag so I could return it. Assuming they used the same shipper the tag never showed up. It's been over a month.

No word from the seller or shipper.

Should I just keep it and use it or set it on the shelf and wait longer

Through a similar shipping snafu I wound up with a free rug shampoo machine. I tried to correct it and return but it was to no avail. I did my part.

I ordered something off WOOT. They took my payment then a few hours later said it was out of stock and refunded my payment. A week later it arrived at my doorstep. I tried 3 times to contact them and their customer service people were unable to comprehend the problem and find a way for me to resubmit payment.

I was on the other end of this once. The buyer was a military member overseas. Shipping took forever and he opened a dispute while it was in transit. The shipment took so long the dispute timed out before it eventually arrived.

I had no recourse whatsoever. eBay’s system was completely not designed for that scenario.

I suspect the buyer knew what he was doing.

Don’t be a thief.

Of course, just keep the part.
You made an effort to alert the seller, you did your job. You’re not responsible for a dysfunctional company or someone who’s not interested enough to get the part back.

You’re not getting paid to do any more than what you have done.

Yeah.. doubt they want the part back. $15 part, and let's say it's 50% profit margin.. the cost of a return shipping label and processing the inventory? No wonder they seem unmotivated.

I'd keep records that you at least tried to return it with nobody coming out to get it.

You made no effort to deceive. Just keep it. The seller has probably written it off as part of the cost of doing business.

This happened to me with some oil filters.

Before placing the order, I messaged the seller, and specifically asked them if WYSIWYG as pictured, and described the filters I was explicitly trying to avoid.

Of course, when they arrived, it turned out to be the latter.

Opened dispute with eBay, seller responded, acknowledged their error, immediately refunded, and asked that I close the dispute.

Also promised to send the "right" filters, and never did, but since I was made whole, it was a closed case as far as I was concerned.
