Duratec VCT 0w20 vs 0w30

Hi Guys,

So I got scared a little after that post about VCT and not using xxW20 ...

Im thinking to switching to SSO 0w30 .. in My Mazda 3 .. car is spec for 5w20 .. been using 0w20 for last oil change ASM 0w20 ...

And now I dunno if I should proceed with 0w30 ...

you will be fine. the Mazdaspeed 3, 6 and CX-7 use the same motor and spec 5w30.

oh i see coool I was thinking that CX7 uses turboo Motor different engines ..

I think the Mazdaspeed3/6/CX-7 engine probably has a different head since it's direct injected. But it still has variable valve timing so it should be close enough.

VVT is same as VCT ?

Use it, I have 5w30 in my 3 right now. Valve train is a bit quieter and engine is a bit smoother than the Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 that was it it. No noticeable difference in gas mileage.

Also, I do not believe that Mazda's VVT is controlled by oil pressure, but by the ECU.

Im not using any oil .. now with 0w20 nor 5w20

I wonder if I will use 0w30/5w30 ... and I will switch back to w20 .. will I use some oil ?

how about a mix like scooby makes 5w-25 or in your case you could create a 0w-25. I am gonna mix up my PP sometime soon but its 0w-20 and 5w-20...i only need 4.25 quarts for a fill on the car and the 0w-20 came in a 6X1quart box.

I think SSO 0w30 is way better Oil than ASM 0w20
And Because Car will work smoother with 0w30 ... And maybe a Bit better protection ...

Manual says different things in different country.

The manual recommends 5w20 for the US and Canada. The manual also says if you can not find 5w20 in your market (for Mexico), use 5w30. So it's perfectly fine to use 5w30 in your mazda3. If you have mazdaspeed 3, you have to use 5w30.

Not sure SSO is a WAY better oil. ASM will work and protect VERY well for your car. I have the same car and am of the opinion that even the cheapest store brand oil will be more than fine if changed at the proper interval.
