Ok, heres a dumb question (but ill ask anyway). I buy my oil in 5 quart jugs, but only use 4.5 quarts. I save the half quart in a jug untill i get to 4.5. Over time will the oil collect contaminants? such as moisture ect...

Nah, It's not hygroscopic like brake fluid, AFAIK. Well, I guess unless it's a synth w/ certain esters. But I think that property is kept in check somehow. But plain ol' dino shouldn't be.

I must be obsessed. I have two different half empty quarts that won't be used for 6 months to a year or more. So I repackaged them in empty 16 oz additive containers.

Schwart, if you are using a clean funnel to pour the 1/2 qt. into the 'collection' jug and keeping the cap tightly sealed in a realively clean area, I don't see an issue.

What motor are we talking about here? My Buick 3800 V6 calls for 4.5qts in the owner's manual; but takes a full 5qts to reach the full mark on the dip stick. I always use 5qts.
