Dual FilterMags

Okay, for all of you who I know are going to say "waste of money," your opinions are already noted. BUT! As the use of one FilterMag has been shown to be beneficial, why wouldn't using two, completely surrounding the filter, be an even greater benefit? My only serious doubt would be the ends of each magnet coming into a "forcefield" conflict with one another (opposing polarities). What say you?

Has anyone tried just magnetizing the whole filter by putting a coil of wire around it and energizing it?

How about a current limited coil energized with the ignition. The residual magnetism should keep anything in place during power down.

I'm trying to come up with the most supercharged way to do this.


I guess with two of them, you'll get your filings on both sides of the can.

. I am serious in my question, though. Outside of the price, I have not heard anything negative about them, so I only "worry" of having a situation of "too much of a good thing." Try again - I'm listening.

I've thought about the electromagnet thing. I thought about having a series of them that, upon shutdown, energized, and then deactivated in sequence to draw the metallic particles toward the dome of the filter where a permanent magnet would catch and hold them.

I think the filter mag is like a bypass filter. All the oil isn't going to pass over it ..but all the oil should manage to pass by it over the course of a few gallons of running. The dual filter mag will get all the oil all the time, like a Force Field. It will probably extract no more debris ..but who the heck knows?

This is BITOG. Nothing is too much "too much".


chevro- I think that the sequenced de-energizing would be unnecessary. I think I'll try it on the bench with a dry filter. Now I would expect engine heat to degrade the magnet you create by just wrapping a coil around it and temporarily energizing it (like you can do with a screw driver) ..but being driven actively and then shut off ....I think that it wouldn't decay over one hot to cool cycle to the point where it would no longer be magnetized.

I can just see you driving by, wiping out the radio reception of everyone around as you go...

[censored], you could charge the city....as you would help clean the streets of any ferrous debris during your drive. Would suck if some of that debris puntured your filter though.


I have seen all the pics of filter mags....I always wonder if the filter wouldn't have just caught the debris on its own.

Yeah, you have a SOLID grasp of it all.

I doubt anyone would put anything powerful enough to pick up anything off the ground ..and any EMF should be over in 5 time constants. It's a straight piece of wire after that. You probably have a mile of the stuff doing the same thing.

..but you do bring up one question..does a FilterMag stay clean on the outside ..or does it eventually wear a beard there too?

Sorry, Gary. Getting a little too cranky in my old age. I actually thought of this after looking at the ForceField magnet, and how all the oil travels over its magnet. Since I already have one Filter Mag, and Summit Racing has them (RA 365) at a clearance price, why not two. (Are you and Soupy married yet?)
