Drum Brake Problem...urgent

I am currently in the process of doing the rear rotors on my dad's 92 Previa. It has the emergency brake shoes inside the rotor hat.

I had difficulty removing the rear rotor, so I eventually had to back off the adjuster wheel a bit.

Once the rotor finally came off, the hold down spring and washers had come out. So, I reassembled those items.

Now, the parking brake shoe that is nearest the rear of the car is loose. The pin is held down correctly, spring is installed correctly, etc.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Use the other side as reference if possible.

The other side is fine. The pin just seems like it is too long or something.

Shoes in the worog position? There is usually a leading and trailing shoe. Different parts.

If the spring is old enough, rusty enough or you've pulled on the drum/rotor enough, it may have been damaged and is not putting enough tension on the shoe. Perhaps time for a hardware kit.

You may have bent the pin or retainer while removing the rotor. This is very common.

If you're sure that isn't it, then double and triple check the position of the bar that the parking brake lever pushes against and also the position and condition of the upper return spring.

If you need a new part to fix it and must drive the van before you can get the needed part, keep in mind that you can drive it provided you remove all parking brake components inside the drum/rotor at that wheel including the cable.

You guys were right. Thanks again. NAPA had a kit in stock and the new pin and spring solved the problem.
