Hello.
My 06 silverado 1500 makes a funky noise. When I go over offset speed bumps or any surface which makes the truck bounce left to right in that manner I get a clunk clunk clunk coming from the rear pass. tire. I get under there and push my foot on the spare tire to rock it left to right and can recreate the sound when it really gets a rockin'.
It sounds like its coming from the drum. My lugs are torqued correctly, and Im pretty sure the rim is on the drum flush, what should I check?

So, wait, is the spare loose or are you bracing against the spare when you kick the back of your regular tire?

I don't think you'd hear brake internals that far away over the rest of the truck. I'd look all over for "close" stuff like exhaust hitting the axle, body mount rubber failing, driveshaft/ u-joints, loose bumper/ hitch...

It is the endplay in the rear axle shafts, grab the bedside and shake the thing side to side you will hear it good then

The spare is very tight, just a good spot to lay and put my foot to get it rocking with my head next to the rear pass. tire.
Exhaust is new and tight, ruled that out.
Definitely not the ball hitch.
U bolts are tight.
I will double check body mounts and u joints.

Roadkingnc: If it is the axle shafts, is this dangerous? Can I get rid of the play? The noise sounds like the drum under the rim is loose or something. Last time I had the tire off I remember the drum kinda loose, enough that under a sideways load it could clunk.

Also, after it does its few clunks when the trucks flexes, say during a turn, after I straighten the wheel and continue(even on perfectly smooth surfaces) it clunks a few times again as if it settles back to the initial position.

Assuming that your hearing the axles hitting the pinon shaft it's a normal noise for a C-Clip rear end. Can't get rid of the play unless the axle shafts are very worn which is very uncommon.

Next time you have the pumpkin open for an oil change take out the c clips and inspect them and the shafts for wear. My dana 35c was making a similar sound. The shaft ends appeared fine but the clips were worn in. I replaced the clips and the noise went away, however, there will always be some play.

Probably lateral play or a bearing.
For a quick test, compare the play [while jacked up] to the other 'good' side.
But I'd also yank the drum and go over everything with scrutiny.
Any chance this is a sway bar bushing issue?
Shocks?

There is no rear sway bar as far as I know. Im certain the noise is from the rear passenger wheel...Im so busy now I just cant find time to take off the wheel to snoop around.
