My Dusters brakes are getting a bit squealy which is no surprise as I've dunked it in a few rivers, puddles and muddy bogs now.
I'm going to strip all the brakes down and give them a clean and lube were required. But I'm a bit lost on the 'right' thing to do with the drum brakes on the back. I've done some googling and coming up short with answers.
My usual tact is...
- Remove the drum and clean everything with brake cleaner and compressed air.
- Sand down any lip on the inside of the drum, and give the shoes a light sand.
- Pull the shoes forward and pop some copper grease where the shoes sit on the backing plate.
- Shove a rag under the adjuster and spray a tiny bit of Bilt Hamber Ferrosol (think WD40 on steroids) onto it and leave it soak for a couple of minutes and then wipe away all the excess.
- Reinstall the drum and check adjustment of the shoes.
- Adjust the handbrake.
Is this correct? Is there a better method or better products out there for doing this?
