Driveway sealing issue

I had my driveway seal coated by a neighbor professional, who is recommended by many last fall. I see now that almost 50% of the driveway. The seal coating has deteriorated. It looks like some of it washed off as it’s at the foot of the driveway. Previously I had done it myself using latex-ite from Home Depot and didn’t have an issue. What is happening here is what he applied not working well with what I did. I did mine about two years ago. Did he get a bad batch of material. Not sure how I should proceed. I will probably give him a call to see what he says.

There appears to be some sort of adhesion issue.

Was the asphalt washed/clean prior to application?
Were temperatures at the time of application possibly an issue (too cold)?
Was the sealer properly mixed prior to use?
Is it possible the sealer was applied too thickly in the areas where it has come off?

The other issue is that it was resealed too quickly?,... the old sealer was still in good enough condition, that the new sealer wasn't able to completely adhere to it.

Unfortunately, I'm betting a whole lot more of it would come off if the driveway was washed with a power washer.

Sure looks like some application/mix error or incompatibility with the old coating. I would power wash it and try to apply the same brand sealer that you used.

Based on what's under the fluffed off areas, it looks like your latex stuff is what's been removed too. If that's the case, I'm not seeing how it's your neighbors fault.

What I applied was on for over years without an issue. Weird this happened after new sealcoat applied. My neighbor recommended this guy not my neighbor I wasn't clear when I originally posted

The typical driveway sealer company uses coal tar or Gilsonite or asphalt emulsion. HomeDepot does not sell any of those.

Gilsonite is what the gypsy driveway dealers use and they often thin it with gas or diesel. It ends up very shinny.

Coal tar lasts a long time but is not good for the environment. Banned in many states.

Asphalt emulsion is the best all around.

Some thin the sealer too much.

So before they did your driveway how much was left of the sealer you put down previously.

Did they spray or squeegee? Should squeegee the first coat and can spray the second.
