I'm going to install a drainplug for the auto trans pan on the BMW, was wondering what you recommend to seal it on the inside? (I installed one once before and it leaked.) I plan on draining all the fluid, then installing the drain plug and sealing it, and hopefully whatever sealant I use will dry if I install the pan right back on that same day. I really don't want to leave the pan off overnight and let all kinds of dirt blow around up inside. I guess if worse comes to worse I can empty the garage out and leave the car in overnight but I would like to just put the pan back on that day, but not fill the fluid for a couple days. Thoughts?

If you're using a self tapping screw it's potentially a bad idea. Aluminum or steel pan? I'd drill a hole, weld a nut inside, and then use a washer-headed bolt (wide head) and appropriate neoprene etc gasket against the smooth outside/ underside of the pan. If you use a good gasket you shouldn't need a sealant.
Best way will be to weld it. I wouldn't trust anything else otherwise. I'm sure there's a few "easy" kits out there though that let you do it without welding. Possibly epoxying the nut on the inside of the pan and using a gasket like eljefino said.

Have you checked to see if an aftermarket pan is available that already has a plug in it? I ordered one from Dorman for my Caravan for $26 with free shipping off of eBay. I'm not certain what all makes and models they make them for but it's worth looking in to.
