Dot 3/4 brand differences

I'd rather not go with ATE brand at all--it looks like they've got supply chain issues with shipping to the states. I go with that and I risk getting counterfeit fluid made by a different company with the same packaging.

Based on what you're saying about the wet boiling point (which is the same thing leland is saying), I should be looking for fluids with a low wet point and a high dry point. I'm probably going to do a drain/fill since the car I have probably hasn't ever had it (might change out the brake pump while I'm at it...gotta watch out for project creep; could just keep it simple with a drain/fill). $20/year isn't that expensive (the reservoir isn't even saying it is less than full--I'm looking for fluid preemptively); the manual says the brake fluid should be inspected (but not necessarily replaced) every 24 months or 30,000 Km.

The only Amsoil the guy has tested is series 500 and 600; I'm going to stay with any of the DOT4 listed on the chart. The least expensive 32oz (946ml) of Castrol GT LMA I could find was $22.98 shipping included. leland tested the "advanced" version of Castrol's fluid, and priced it at the standard version--pretty sure it's the SRF that he tested, which is about ten times more expensive.

The difference in wet points between Pentosin's LV and super is nine degrees. They're priced about the same. Starting to lean towards Pentosin LV now; it's about $3 less expensive than 54ml less of Castrol GT LMA.
 
The very few parts stores which carry the GT/LMA/DOT 4 in my area get less than $10.00 for the quart bottle (plus tax of course).

I never thought about the counterfeit thing with Ate, but I HOPE NOT, since I just picked up 2 liters of the Type 200 today for $30.00 TOTAL (from a reputable dealer/BMW repair ansd race shop).
 
I copied the DOT4 data from Matt Robertson's comparison and made a ton of edits, especially with the purchase links and prices. I added some math formulas to get a better idea for how much wet boiling point performance you're getting per penny.

Castrol React SRF is the top performing wet boiling point, non-ULV variety--that's not going to change. Atm, it looks like it is down to Pentosin LV and ATE Typ 200 [sic, it's not "type"] for the cost performance--the reason to choose Pentosin LV over Typ 200 isn't for the money, it's because it's ULV and Typ 200 is only LV. I'm buying this fluid for the winter, which in Louisville stays in the 30's and 40's until late June. It gets down to the 10's from late January to late March. The downside is that Pentosin LV's wet boiling point is barely over the default DOT4 spec, which kind of makes the whole chart less effective aside from acting as a money comparison tool. Pentosin LV has a 58F lower wet boiling point--that's not an insignificant difference. It means the Pentosin LV is more hygroscopic than the Typ 200, which means shorter lifespan, even if the cycling is shorter and thus the traction is better. Seeing as the whole point of brakes is better traction and I'm driving in frigid blizzards half the year, seems like Pentosin LV should be my top pick.
 
Many of us do not race. We don't care about boiling point. We do care that the brake fluid will not allow corrosion and eat up the expensive abs pump and much less expensive calipers and wheel cylinders. That characteristic is never listed. Anyone have any information???

MolaKule also didn't focus too much on the potential corrosive
properties of some of the potential chemicals like Sodium Hydroxide . The question is which fluids do NOT contain those corrosive chemicals?

ironically, the ONLY company/product I've ever seen which addressed/made a big deal about the above is a PURE racing fluid called Torque RT700.

The take away I got from their copy, and speaking to their techs, is that their fluid has what would be the equivalent of a high starting TBN (as in a motor oil), with MUCH higher buffering agents added to fight/counteract acid formation and corrosion, than ANY other high performance/racing fluid currently on the market.
They even make it out to be their 'claim to fame' over their competitors.

Being a (CO$$TLY) racing fluid, I know this does not help you, but it is the ONLY time I've seen/heard this addressed directly by a manufacturer.

first all brake fluid is synthetic.... thats marketing, however 1 brake fluid that i feel is better then the rest is CASTROL LMA.. Read and do a google search if you like or read what people say here.
