Dorman engine oil drain plug gasket not the normal color

I purchased a drain plug gasket for my parent’s 2021 Hyundai Tucson from O’Reilly’s and noticed both sides of the gasket are the same aluminum color. The ones I’ve purchased from the dealer had one side darker than the other, almost like one side was layered with a different material.

The guy behind the counter had to go fetch it from the back as they didn’t have any on the hooks so this is likely from a bulk pack.

Does anyone know if the bulk pack gaskets look different from the individually sold ones?

Gasket in question is the Dorman 095-147.

Dorman is the Kirkland of the automotive world. They can change suppliers willy nilly. They don't make stuff.

That said, your bulk pack theory holds water. And I hope it holds oil.

That’s the same one that I use on my CX50, my daughter’s CX50, and her Mazda 3 before that. In the years that I’ve used those, I’ve never had a problem.
I can’t tell you if they differ from the drain plug gaskets sold individually, but if it fits your drain plug correctly, you’ll be fine.

When i had the 2008 Sonata the OE filters came with crush washers they were nothing more than some lightweight aluminum. The Toyota's always were an aluminum with a almost felt like coating and the old ford truck had a big old bolt with a rubber washer about the head. I may have used the Dorman ribbed looking plastic ones a few times in a pinch.

The individually sold Dorman gasket looks just like the OEM. The Dorman gasket I have does not. I believe it’s because it came from a bulk pack.

This is BITOG. We lose sleep over these sorts of things.
