Door seal

Noticed that the bottom door seal on my front door has given up the ghost. I've tried two different ones, and have come to the conclusion that 1/2" seals are about double the size I need: I need something meant to seal 1/4". Any suggestions? I've looked at Home Depot, Lowes and now Amazon, no luck yet.

It's a metal door. Not sure who made it, and I didn't install it. The 1/2" seals I tried had me leaning into the door to close it. I think the seal that came off was not only meant to seal a smaller gap, but perhaps used a softer rubber to do the sealing.

I couldn't find the right thing for my front door, either. I went with something like this which mounts to the bottom of the door face with screws. It has worked well for several years thus far.

Go find a real millwork company and get a snap in door sweep. You don't need the rubber bulb style-just get one with rubber fins.

Depending upon the age of the door, the threshold may also be adjustable and can be moved up or down so it seals, and also closes easily.

Go to the millwork section/aisle where the doors are.

Sometimes, they put this type of thing over there instead of the insulation section.

Thanks, I'll try that. Push come to shove I could just trim down the one I have (I bought the snap in one already, but it's just too thick / trying to seal too large of a gap).

I have been happy with the sealing performance of the type of sweep I used. Mine looks a lot like the one in the link I posted, but the metal part is brass to match my door hardware. I like it BETTER than the original with the rubber fins that ended up shredded and just made the door harder to open and close.

Since I had already bought a seal that was too big, I wound up cutting it down. After closing the unaltered seal a couple of times, the door threshold (which is metal) left plenty of evidence as to where it was scrubbing. I took an Exacto knife to the scrub areas, leaving just a smidge of where it was dragging. On the seal I have, there are two bubble / closed / U shaped areas; I sliced the front one way down, and then wound up having to remove one side of it completely. but now the door closes reasonably easy, and it's sealed up.

I took a look at the threshold but didn't see how it was adjustable.
