i have had an arlo door bell camera for a couple of years . was free in beginning , then $5 then 8 now i recived an email saying they are raising it to $10 . this is the last straw and i wish to find a new option .

what dorr bell cameras are out there that have free or low cost service

I use Wyze stuff. No fee unless you want the cloud storage options, but many of their cams can accept a micro SD for local storage. Even without paying you can still access them remotely.

FWIW, I don't think any of them are super secure, so I wouldn't go aiming them at things you wouldn't want others to see.

Wyze doorbell V2.

The only problem I had was when I upgraded from one of the older cameras. I had to upgrade my doorbell transformer as the old one didn't supply enough current for the new camera to function correctly. I think I couldn't get it to actually ring the doorbell or something. Been a year or so and I've forgotten exactly what it was. But a new transformer was cheap and easy.

I am using the tp-link taso kasa that will record to sd card. It is cheap and will keep about 2 days of recording with the 24/7 function. I am not entirely happy with the flexibility or software for it, so watching this thread.

Nest (Google) has a no-cost option that will do notifications and save event-based video history for 3 hours.

Their paid tiers (Nest Aware) are an $8/month service for 30 days of event-based video history or $15/month for 60 days of event-based history and 10 days of 24/7 video history (24/7 video only for wired doorbells).

I started with a ReoLink Wi-Fi doorbell camera, which is powered by the existing doorbell power supply. I would recommend it based on my experience in the ~6 months I've had it.

I did have to 3D print a mount with a more extreme angle due to the mounting location - the supplied mounts caused the camera to catch too much of the nearby wall.

Wasn't there an article recently about how eufy internet connected stuff being infected with chinese spyware or something. I don't know if I want papa jingping watching me.
In Denver recently a couple had wifi cameras everywhere but still had their garage broken into. Apparently thieves used a tool to jam wifi signals. Not sure who the cameras/ service is but they recommend going wired.

Our new home came with a Ring Doorbell NO THANK YOU, they charge you for your own video. Sold it on E-bay and ____

Done, trust me and thank me later. Even comes with the memory card and a neat kit with angle plates should you want the DB camera angled a specific direction. Also just bought one for my son and DIL house for Christmas.
( I have a LOT of experience with all things video before I retired)

Choose carefully, TONS of options. I use the doorbell wire voltage. They also sell battery models and also models where there is no doorbell and comes with a chime.

This is the model that replaces a standard mechanical doorbell and uses the power from the house. The model number is B451AJD-E
and the white one on sale right now. I love the look too and the "plastics" feel quality

Below is how it shows on the iPhone App, there is also an Android of course
We have a 8ish foot entryway and the image is always crisp, meaning it doesnt get blown out by the bright daylight outside the entrance when someone is in the entryway. Really nice for an inexpensive device, I cant imagine a better image. There is a 4k model, only because of my experience with cameras in general I prefer the 2k for the doorbell since you are looking for a quick connection incase you want to communicate to the person outside. It will use less bandwidth and in theory should be a bit faster.
OF COURSE YOU CAN ZOOM AND GREATLY EXPAND THE PICTURE BY TURNING YOUR PHONE SIDEWAYS.

PS. ANYTHING involving video and peoples home wifi can have issues so user experiences may be different. These cameras are mostly good, many times its the users wifi signal when an issue occurs.
Also as another posted below this post, you can subscribe to cloud service but not a requirement and this DB camera carries no fees.
More so if you buy form Amazon, nothing to lose, dont like it? Return it.

Amcrest. I'm using that AD110. It has local storage, a MicroSD card so no need to pay. The picture is great and the app easy to use. If you want to pay, they do have a cloud service but I've never used it.

How do devices things hold up in extreme heat and sunlight? I've been thinking about these for a while and it's "on the list" of things to do.

I don’t think it matters much. The Chinese aren’t after you. They are already in the US treasury and in every place else of our society.
It’s so bad that the US treasury knows they’re there but in four weeks they don’t know the extent.

I would think everything is a wild card when it comes to electronics. They’re pretty durable but overtime 10 hour a day sunlight can destroy anything.

It depends on what you do and who you work for. They are definitely targeting people with access to Govt systems.

They got a good list of 'persons of interest' when they got a copy of people's SF86 data from the breach.
