They try, but the response they give by way of its substance (or lack of it), and clear - to me - demonstration that its not their own thoughts, but an echoing of someone else's that they don't even fully understand (not by a mile) would surprise you as to who is really laughing at who, and with every reason to.
Due to academic training where comprehension of complex questions had to be fully demonstrated in a one draft, race against the clock, response to that question, I've learned how to very quickly organize and compose my thoughts. This was later reinforced in jobs I've done where detailed reports were required and where you were again raced the clock.
As I can type much faster than I can write long hand, it might come as a surprise to some to realize that my longest posts are typically written in less than 10 minutes, and the majority in under 5.
A lot of time is saved, and substance easily presented, when you already have a fundamental grasp of what you're writing about that requires no time spent looking things up online.
When I don't understand a topic well enough to form that type of response, I elect not to flout my ignorance on a public forum for the world to read.
If its of interest enough to me to respond to, but I lack that level of understanding, I put to good use the "information superhighway" at my finger tips to read whatever information I can find online that is at whatever very basic level of understanding I possess, and work up from there building block style until I know the subject matter well enough to write about it (that I can speed read provides a valuable time saver to that end, and that I enjoy knowledge, on a wide variety of subjects, for its own intrinsic value provides the only motivation I need if its of interest to me).
Not to suggest that I expect the same in return. I don't - unless someone demonstrates a strong viewpoint to the contrary. I then expect an equally strong understanding of the subject to be demonstrated. Otherwise its just a meaningless rant, and I dismiss it as such. If they resort to some form of personal attack in lieu of argument (as its used in philosophy and other realms where argument is used as explanation), then I really know they don't have a clue what they're spouting off about, and would better spend their time educating themselves on the issue rather than writing their inflammatory rants.
