Don't Shoot Your Finger Off !

The basic the gun is always loaded works for me. What is interesting is the guy behind the counter didn't check the gun and the cop didn't check the gun . I find it interesting a gun in the display case was loaded.

Unbelievable, isn't it? At least 2 people at that place deserve to be fired.

Nearly grave error. Not stupidity just terrible mistake.

This is what scares me more about loaded weapons, people who simply can't handle them as you need a pulse to own and even conceal one in my state.

The person that traded a loaded gun into the gun store failed. The person that put a loaded gun in the case failed. The gun store owner that handed a loaded gun over to the cop failed. And the cop that racked the gun, and didn't verify it was empty, and then shot himself, failed.

That's a whole lot of systematic failures that shouldn't have happened. Unbelievable.

'Thankfully he's a cop'? Really? lol

I shot my left index finger off.
I knew the gun was loaded, my finger wasn't near the trigger but it was a hammer fired auto and when I slid it in the new leather pancake holster which was stiff the hammer snagged the leather not enough to cock the gun but pull the hammer back and release it again forward shooting my finger off which was holding the holster by the center.
Note the gun was pointed down.

I remember an episode from Pawn Stars some guy brought in a shotgun and when Rick asked to take a close look, he immediately apply the 4 basic rules; assume the firearm is loaded, finger of the trigger... etc.

When he tried to clear the chamber and a shell just came out, and they both looked kind of puzzled then Rick went "the gun was loaded". I assume the scene was scripted but it was still funny when the the two men had eye contact for a few seconds too long.

The gun safety rules work well.

All guns are always loaded. Remove the magazine and lock the slide back (or open the cylinder in the case of revolvers) That eliminates guesswork.

Also - keep the booger hook off the bang button !!

How do you know that happened? That weapon could have been loaded by anyone.

How did a LOADED gun get into a display case. Major snafu going on at the gun store.

Not quite anyone and it's still a basic procedural failure on the part of both the gun store employee who put it in the case loaded and the one that handed it to a customer without checking first. NEVER assume what a customer is going to do.

The first thing they teach you in the mandatory gun course up here is always assume the gun is loaded under all circumstances.

first gun I ever bought was off a guy that shot a tiny .25 cal hole thru meat of his index finger when it jammed and he was "working it" to clear it with his finger over the end of the barrel.

I agree the gun store should have never allowed a loaded weapon into the display case. But I'm having a hard time believing it got there because a customer traded in a loaded gun. While anything is possible, (especially at that place), it would seem unlikely.

Here you go. It seems so appropriate for this thread..... "And see, dis is an unloaded gun!"
