Don't see much about Redline here. Why not?

Anyone here know how to read code numbers on a Redline bottle ? See attached

There are many posts about Red Line products if you dig a little bit- high-performance motor oil, keeps an engine clean and smooth running, MTL in the manual gearbox, rear diff fluid- for LSDs, water wetter for coolant, and the fuel injector cleaner: all are great products. worth the money for my in-line six/ TT BMWs. Started using it many moons ago with my DSM…. The MTL smoothed out the notchy gearbox. And I always felt it was a superior oil to protect turbo bearings.
My advice is: if you have a special car, it’s worth it

It's special to me! Nothing high performance but I did put a tune on it that states it should be putting out 430HP. I can't verify the claim but I can definitely tell a big change. I have enough fuel injector/fuel cleaners to last probably an entire year. Was just in autozone and they had techron full engine treatment bottles at buy one get one free For $11 so I bought them all. How many miles on that motor? Looks amazing. I change every 5k miles to hopefully keep mine like that.

It still amazes me that Redline makes a 5w20 with an HTHS of 3.3. Sure it’s at the very top end of the 20 grade range but it’s still higher than any oil that I know of that is anywhere close to 9.0 cst at 100C. By way of comparison there are a lot of 10 cst at 100C oils that only have a 3.0-3.1 HTHS

HPL Euro No VII 5W-20 is 8.7cSt with an HTHS of 3.267, so 3.3cP if we round up to one decimal place.

By the way, the best pricing to pursue for Red Line HPMO is at BimmerWorld
you can get 10% off a case and free shipping if you work the deals

I ordered mine from FCP Euro along with my filter. I just tossed their bottles in the garage. I bought an oil plug with a valve in it for super easy draining. It’s $18-$20 to ship it back via pirateship. I think the initial cost was $140ish but with my next one being the price of shipping I’ll already be a happy camper.

I honestly will probably start buying all my oils from them. They don’t seem to jack the cost up. I’m getting my farm truck changed now but moving forward will probably grab molygen or something since it does more sitting than anything else.

Bought my last order of Redline from FCP as well and great price and delivery was fast

That’s a very clean engine. How many miles ? And how many miles with using Redline oil ?

I used to run their oil in my autocross car...I didnt have a reason to hate it. I just use HPL now. Ive used their gear oils in mine and some customer cars with no complaints.

I feel like when it comes to Redline, it seems its like its consumed by 1/10 oil nerd and then the other 9/10 are just people running it because they saw they should but do not really know why they should, if that makes any sense?

When I bought it, it had the infamous red sludge from the standard BMW synthetic oil changes. Prior owner was not diligent in oil changes, subscribed to the BMW extended OCI. I immediately started using Red Line in it and did short OCI‘s to clean it up. When I had to replace the valve cover gasket, my tech took this photo. He was amazed. It runs better than when I bought it. In-line six BMW engines run even more smoothly with Red Line in the crank case. Thus will never use conventional/group 3. I own / not lease. ;-)

Interesting, thanks.

I think we've called that the "Castrol patina" in the past, that reddish hued varnish that the old BMW dealer oil used to leave on everything with the OE OCI's.

The valve train on our 2011 BMW E90 328i. Picture taken at 110K miles. Engine had a lifetime of Castrol 0W-30, aka "German Castrol", 5K OCIs. No Castrol patina on this motor.
