I run 5w30, whatever flavor I have left overs in from my trailblazer oil changes. Have run PPPP, Castrol Syntec and next will be QSUD. I don't recall ever having it burn oil and after 6 years the engine still runs like a top (cant say the same for the auger gear box). I regularly pull start mine down to -20C and on several occasions -30C. One pull and she revs right up. Hasn't blown up from this, so 5w30 must be just fine.
