Yes im laughing at myself..

Saw Echo cs-400

beers 4 (on a empty stomach)

THE MISTAKE: the fill hole for gas and bar and chain oil are exactly alike minus color and location.. you guessed it, i filled my gas tank with oil and fired it up... oops.. when it died and i realized my mistake i dumped the oil from the tank and refilled it with pre-mix. yes it started back up but it has ran a tad rough.. I opened up the top and shot carb cleaner down it.. and this helped. She's running fine, but i thought id share my goof with ya'll.. IF WE CANT LAUGH AT OURSELVES........

so this made me think of another good question, is there any good reason not to run good used synthetic automotive oil from past OCI'S in the bar and chain oil hole ? I do early OCI's so i know the oil is still good.. instead of just rebottling the oil and turning it in, why not get a second life out of it and bar and chain oil ????

your thoughts ?

i was not drunk, buzzed yes, but not hammered... i was just tinkering in the garage doing odds and ends.. i was getting the saw ready for the next days trimming/work..

Word of friendly advice. If you are going to drink enjoy your alcohol consumption, but do not do anything that involves machinery maintenance included. My point is that you drank your beers for a reason enjoy them, have fun it is a holiday weekend, do the machinery maintenance tomorrow morning or when you have the time. Even though the chance of bodily harm was almost non existent but the potential for equipment harm is a real possibility.

It is kind of funny, but I've got to be honest and say that it's a little scary, too. I like to have a beer while detailing my car, but that doesn't mean I'd ever start it up and operate it, even if only to move it to the spot over.

One in a million type things do still happen, so I'd say that starting machinery that could end your standard of living in a heart beat should be avoided.
 
I do, big orange jug of bar and chain oil on the shelf.. sitting next to 2-3 jugs full of oild oci's it was simply a idea.. thats why i posted it, to find out why i shouldnt do it..

to awnser others, i dont drink while operating machinery.. this was a spur of the moment (aw-shucks, get er dun) moment.

I fully agree with you all...
 
My father did this in 1984 on his (nearly new) echo chainsaw. Had no beer in the system.

Today it still runs strong. We use Amsoil and Mobil 1 2T in it.

LOL, NAA, im just a lightweight.. I brag about it to friends.. you can spend big bucks getting sauced, all i need is a six pack and there's usually change (beer) left over ! and Im a bi-weekly weekend warrior drinker, a case of beer would easily last me a few months..
 
Well Ive down stupid things sober, and stupid things after a few. The stupid things after a few out number the stupid things after nothing. No worries about what you did. Just don't do any climbing trees and cutting stuff after a few. Ha ha
 
Ahhhh. The early 80s. The memory of rolling out of the Burger King parking lot in my 66 Chevelle in second gear and letting the clutch peddle slip out from under my foot and burning the tires for two blocks. All why balancing an open bottle of Southern Comfort between my legs. Followed by a trip home in the passenger seat of the tow truck that hauled my car (with a blown rear end) home. I miss that car. Lucky to be alive though.
 
In college (circa 1987 or so) I pulled into our driveway of our rental house. I couldn't help notice the ambulance in our neighbors driveway. According to a chatty EMS employee it was a a riding lawn mower accident. I wondered what got cut off, finger, hand or toes? Later that night I found out it was indeed a lawnmower accident. He was very, very drunk. He was mowing next to the house, leaning over to check his clearance to the foundation and fell off, bashed his head on the brick siding and fell off the mower. The mover continued on it's merry way across the street and ended up in the parking lot of a restaurant. Motorists that had to stop to miss the traveling mower figured something was wrong and called 911.


And, I just got a CS-450 yesterday, and I am looking for something to cut down.....anything.

I always have a few when working on one of my own cars. If I had a chainsaw, you can bet I'd have a beer before trying to do any maintenance on it. Today I went through seven beers doing front brakes. I wouldn't even consider drinking before working on someone else's car unless they brought the beers and handed me each one. The thing is, although it takes a lot longer to work while drinking, the end result is always a better product and it's a more pleasant experience along the way. To each their own, no?
 
I put drained the tank again and put fresh gas in it again, stopped and picked up a fresh bar and chain, its like brand new.. I was going to replace the plug, fuel filter and air cleaner.. but she's running so sweet now i cant justify doing anything at all to it.. like she's brand new.. I also did a rear brake job on my Polaris Ranger the same day, it was a 1 beer Job
