Donaldson Oil Filters

I don't think that there's too much distinction from Donaldson outside of their Endurance line with the SYNTEQ media. They're competitive, surely. They really don't seem all too into the passenger car market ..at least from my point of view. Industrial hydraulics they appear to excel at and commercial HD stuff. Especially those of Asian origin. That could be just my personal filters in action, though.

Fram is a punching bag here, mostly based on how it is constructed. I used to be as bad as any about that, but am asking more and more about its performance. For all the strong opinions here, there is very little data to back filter choice.

There is no denying the orange can of death's cardboard end caps and lack of media. My point is the complete lack of proof of it leading to problems.

The whole oil filter chopping thing reminds me of the food kooks complaining about dog foods after reading the ingredients. They ignore the reality of dogs thriving on foods with bad ingredients.

In terms of what they put into it, absolutely (assumed basic orange can). The distribution on Donaldson may make it tougher to get value out of. It's the same with WIX if you're not buying from some place like Fleetfilter. Your local NAPA can't even buy them that cheap. I'm sure they have the same rolling costs involved with filter manufacturing that everyone else does. Nickles or even pennies probably are the margins.

They make excellent filters. If you are using them on a 302, as your name implies, it is the P169071 you are looking for.

At the shop I work at we stock the non synthetic Donaldson Filters that are white and most have the prefix P55****. We use the filters on a variety of heavy equipment as well light trucks and cars. I am curious as to how these filters stand compared to a Wix. Which one is better?

IMHO, Donaldson is better. There was a pic of the non synthetic version of that pic posted on here before and the construction was superb.

Well at the shop I work at we stock the white (P55 non synthetic media) Donaldson filters and use them on a variety of heavy equipment and automotive applications. Just by a quick examination a P550008, which would be a 1515 Napa Gold or Wix 51515, has a black anti-drain back valve which I would think is nitrile. I am also curious in the comparison with the conventional Donaldson

I've cut lots of them open and haven't been disappointed. Some are on my site, but it would be too repetitive to post them all. As said above, that Endurance version is real great, but I've yet to cut one open.

They are much more into heavy equipment, and are 50/50 partners with CAT in the Illinois CAT filter plant (according to the SEC). But there are a lot that fit the smaller cars, but it has taken their distribution a while to let that sink in. There are several small ones I order 400 a month, and at one point had a 8 month backorder.

They are spectacular filters. I also recommend looking at Baldwin filters. The B2 and B2-HPG are terrific filters for the long-haul.
