I've found a Donaldson brand filter that should fit both my Honda Element and my Acura TL. I've been using K&N and Amsoil filters up to now. Would the Donaldson offer any improvements over those? Maybe better flow? Thanks.

Although I can't comment on the Donaldson filter, until recently I have been using the K&N HP-1004. I believe that the K&N HP-1005 is an oversize possibilty for our TL's, but I cant find one right off the shelf and I dont feel like going through a special order process.
As I stored the car for the winter, I installed a Napa Gold 1340 filter. It is slighly taller than the regular size, but has a much larger diameter.
I dont anticipate any problems once spring rolls around.

I also have no experience with Donaldson filters however I'm using a K&N HP-1004 in my TL because of the higher flow. Especially during the colder months, I'll take flow over filtration.

What number is the filter?

I use the p169071 with the synthetic media.

If its that one, go for it, its an excellent filter.

It's part number is P502007. I found it by cross-referencing a Fram part number. I'm mainly looking for high flow.

According to grease's test, donaldson paper filters flow really good.

I would go with the donaldson, to me, its the cadillac of filters.

Dan, the P169071 isn't actually made by Donaldson. Looks more like a Champ Labs filter to me.
Donaldson manufactured filters use a different centre tube and base plate.
Some of their filters out of their Indonesian dual venture plant aren't the best either......(speaking from experience

TDI,

I tend to agree with you, fleetguard also offers the same filter. I cut the donaldson and fleetguard open and they were identical elements down to the number stamp on the end cap. They also look identical to the media used in the high grade delco filters. Are supposed to filter down to 7 microns and flow like crazy.

I use the donaldson version on my stuff because I like the black filter. It keeps the oil very clean between 5k changes. Only filter that worked as well was the baldwin b2-hpg

My local TruckPro can get the Donaldson's for about $6, which is alot cheaper than the K&N's ($11!).
