I have a neighbor a few houses down who has two large dogs that he walks at least twice a day past my house. Pretty much with fail they will take a large dump in my front yard.

The thing is he DOES pick up the mess with a bag, but he has a long leash and the dogs go up to within a few feet of the front of my house when they go.

If it was just a few feet off the sidewalk, I really wouldn't care about it.

My wife says that I should just be happy he picks it up. And if I say anything to him he might stop picking it up altogether.

I looked out my front office window the other day and his pit bull dog was downloading a couple of feet in front of the window.

What do you guys think??

Yeah that is infuriating. It is nice that he picks it up, but how could you not take that as even SLIGHTLY personal? (if it is always your yard)

They make animal deterrents that you can spray on the yard that is one way to help. If your at home and witness the trespass I would set up a couple speakers after getting a sign or two to please keep your pets off and if still no correction blast em with some loud barking. I have a hose end animal deterrent that when tripped gives the offender a blast of water. Works great on deer and I know the poor dog of mine also would not go near the area for several months

Oh yes! Goes well into my yard as well as the rest of the neighbors.

LOL. The guy is such a nit wit, he probably wouldn't get it!

Talk to the guy. Tell him where his dogs can go. If he doesn't comply with your wishes, then there are deterrents available.

Yep. Have a friendly talk with your neighbor.

I'm really not seeing a problem. Him standing a few feet from your house while he picks up poop is a bad thing? Is he looking in your windows or something?

I'd just be glad he picks it up.

If he's doing it in others yards I bet the conversation has already been had. I keep thinking of the words from a Johnny Cash song, "here lies Les Moore, 4 slugs from a 44, no Les, No Moore" ;)Maybe a cardboard cutout of a dog doing it with a few holes in it may get his attention. It's your yard, you pay the taxes, its not a public rest area.
South TX where I holed up for a couple months is having issues with diseases passed by animal wastes!

A little bit of a touchy situation....but it's really good that he picks up.

Since the actual location bothers you, maybe ask if he'd mind keeping the poop within a few feet of the sidewalk?

I would tell him that you appreciate him picking up after his dog and you'd appreciate it even more if he kept the dog further from your house due to the SMELL....

Get some little pieces of meat and add a hint of cayenne pepper inside and scatter across his landing zones.Neighbor had a dog doing the same thing but now he goes on someone elses lawn.

Nice euphemism.

I would take a passive approach. If you're familiar with his schedule make an excuse to sit on your porch as he comes by. Your presence alone would make him think twice about letting the dog(s) conduct their business. If not, and it happens beyond an acceptable distance from the sidewalk, there's two possibilities: 1) he apologizes, and 2) he doesn't. If the former, graciously accept his apology but tell him not to make it a habit. If the latter, warn him there may be consequences if it happens again.

Note- big dogs should be on a short leash.

I had a similar problem years ago,a neighbor's dog dropping presents in my front yard, but left there for my boots to catch. I got some hamburger meat, mixed a lot of epsom salt in,and made balls from it. The neighbor kept his dog inside all day,and upon coming home, let him out. I got home about 1/2 hour before,so put the balls out. The next day,I heard a commotion from next door, and saw him kicking the dog out. I went over to inquire what was the matter, and was told the dog had left many piles and runs all over his house. The dog never came back.
