Dog inside plastic portable carrier mounted to SUV driving on highway.

No way I would do something so dumb and put my dog at risk at 80 miles per hour. 🫣

I don't understand why the short wheelbase tahoe, non xl yukon, and non esv escalade exist. They and all other large swb suv's are completely worthless compared to lwb counterparts. That kennel would easily fit back there along with the cooler.

We always had the dog inside with us, and he was a non-trivial 120 lbs Great Pyrenees. Luggage went on the roof rack.
Can't imagine putting a dog in an external carrier like this guy.
Jerk or sadist? You decide.

I remember when dogs used to ride in pickup beds... and liked it. My biggest concern would be exhaust fumes, provided the weather is temperate. There should be a better way for the people inside to sense if the dog's in duress as well.
I grew up with a giant German sheperd. If you dropped the tailgate on dad's pickup the dog got in. He wasn't getting out until he went for a ride. If it happened that we weren't going anywhere we pretty much had to drive down the road a little then back to get him out.

In reality the dog in the carrier is likely no worse than in the hunting dog carriers in the back of a truck.

I still don't like it.

A pickup bed ride is safer than this.
If the car gets bumped from behind even a little the dog is dead.
Our animals ride with us.
