Does your employer require a Video Resume before a possible face to face job interview ?

My nephew recently had to upload a 2 minute video if himself talking about his educational background, qualifications, skills, achievements, personality, etc….

I’m old fashioned and feel this is more like speed dating trying to sell yourself within 2 minutes to a potential suitor.

Maybe the new phone interview. I do phone interviews before any F2F interviews.

I don't see how anybody but women (makeup) are going to look half way decent on video. What one doesn't have to do to land a job these days!

Job market it’s tough and job seekers willing to do these video resumes.

Networking is still the best way to find something.

Never heard about it but I think its likely better than trying to get by there AI database screening.

Probably also weeds out all the tire kickers as well (too much work for them).

Also probably time saver. If they just don't like the way I look or talk I would rather get the boot early than waste my own time.

My place hired an intern that way as well. I’ve done a few myself. I think some of it will be the position being filled. For more experienced positions, face to face is much better.

My current position was strictly face to face interviews.

I’d rather do that than load my resume and manually input all my same info… from, you know, my resume.

At least with the video I hope that a person in the chain of command is seeing it vs just algorithms, an HR underling or third party guy in India deciding everything.

When I Semi retired at age 63 I applied for a position at a national bank. Dream job, 25 hours a week, Mon-Fri, FULL benefits and a stupid amount of PTO and Holidays that I think totaled around 6 weeks. It really was to buy time until Medicare kicked in but I loved it so much I would still be there today, except for corporate changes in the company made it not as fun. (like working a Saturday every month the complete branch would work another branch on Saturdays on a rotational basis.etc)
... When I was first contacted for the position to be hired. I had to do the video. They had most of the stuff you mentioned already then also had to answer straight forward questions on why I felt I would fit in with the position. I guess it all makes sense now. Saves a lot of time. I think after that was the background and then the meeting.

Hadn't heard of it, not surprised I guess. Things are always changing.

Hopefully I retire before I have to resort to doing this--I'll never get into a new job if I had to show my ugly mug to get in.

I'm old school . Not interested in a video . There were three of us Foremen in our group and along with the Supervisor , we screened people based on their Resume . We usually brought in up to 4 or 5 for a FTF interview .

I like it for the most part. It would let me demonstrate that I can speak somewhat effectively and present myself well.

The downside of course is that it allows people to be turned down for interviews for illegal things like race. And good luck proving that. Are you hiring a person because they have a strong resume or because this chick is a knockout or this dude is polished and looks professional?

They do not require this. However it’s a great way to weed out the mass resume senders who can’t do this and skip the somewhat useless recruitment screen. Also AI can likely review your video if company paying for that.

AI can review video in what way ???

Very good looking women have an advantage if they are under qualified….

Some ugly folks are the best performers.
