Does your daily driver have any intake or engine mods?

My Audi is very mildly "abnormally aspirated©®™." Intake mods are limited to the addition of a velocity stack (AA) in the airbox (pre-MAF to allow removal of MAF screen) and a modified MAF housing (DIY). The MAF screen and MAF center shroud, both of which were huge restrictions (at least 30%), have been removed. The gains are audible and measurable.

What have you done to your daily driver?

On my '95 Accord I added a short ram intake in an attempt to improve mileage a little. Without the intake air resonator, the car sounds much louder with the throttle more than 50% open, but thankfully is no different at low throttle. I sense no difference in power at all, but I'm consistently getting 1-2 mpg better on my very consistent highway driving. That's about a 3%-6% improvement!

Land Rovers, the older 4.0L aluminum V8s, are not meant for speed. Many LR guys have tried and short of a complete race motor, they don't respond well to the little things. I'm told the ECU is very invasive and "corrects" for modifications. It corrects it in that it negates any changes. Oh well, engine runs great and I don't have to worry with tinkering to get 1-2% more out of it. I miss tinkering though, have always done so, but...............

My only modification: Redline everything

2005 Civic DX:

I removed the intake resonator chamber (black box to the left of the air cleaner housing in pic below):

and routed a shop vac hose from the air cleaner housing inlet down to my fog light cutout on the bumper:

I only have one mod; my VW GTI came factory-fitted with a permenently lit CEL, & they didn't even charge me for it. I love those folks at VWOA!!!

linder...interesting mod you have there....aren't you afraid you'll pick up un-neccessary moisture from all the rain ya'll get over yonder? I got a 06 Accord V6 and was thinking about doing the same but with a smoother pipe. That pipe would create a lot of turbulance I'd think. But, you can't get anymore cold air in than that!!!!

Ported Throttle Body,H Pipe Dual Exhaust, CAI (AEM Brute force with the Dry flow filter), And soon to be Cams, and chip,And then Ill go from there. Yes I really do love tinkering and obviously I love my truck.

My new job doesn't come with a vehicle, so I drive my wife's old 1998 Chevy Tracker 4 door. It's bone stock and isn't very masculine, but it's fully loaded, only has 66K miles, and get's the job done.

On nice days I take my '92 Wrangler to work. The engine is mostly stock(2.5L squirrel power)with only a ported intake and TB, but she has a granny-low transmission from a 1953 Chevy 2.5ton dump truck and a 1/2 ton Dodge truck transfercase. She has 7.5" of lift and sits on 35" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws with locked axles. A full cage keeps me safe. It's pissah.

Schmoe,

While not readily apparent in the pics, the hose makes a 7"+ climb over the automatic transmission and thus far I haven't had any issues with moisture. After I installed it we had a few severe rain spells, and each time I checked the inlet side of the air filter it was bone dry.

I looked into the aftermarket intakes (read smooth bore), but they were costly, and more imporantly there was not one readily available for an automatic Civic. Being the miserly type, the shop-vac hose fit the bill quite well

lessee.. on my pickup I've got a Open element air cleaner, injector spacer, adjustable FPR, Ultimate TBI (ported) 4 deg advanced timing, MSD wires, long tube headers, a high flow cat and a Flowmaster cat back.

I've also got a cam for it in my closet which is waiting for me to buy the rest of the required parts for the swap. once I get the cam in, it's custom prom time.

My daily driver is a 2005 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 with the Duramax diesel.

All stock except for a 135hp/300tq Quadzilla Stealth programmer to keep the ricers in check

Hoping for low 14s when the track opens up.

My daily driver 85 Volvo wagon has an ENEM V15 cam (256deg/12mm), cold air only intake on the stock air box, and electric radiator fan.

At 265,000mi, runs great and surprises a few people - gotta love a sleeper.

Does weight reduction due to age and rust count as a mod?

I added a 4.0L Jeep Throttle body inplace of my stock 2.5L TB. It's a common mod for TJ 4 bangers and results in a small increase in power with added throttle response.

My LS1 Camaro SS has about everything you can imagine done. I DD it 3-5 days of the week.

Lid, 85mm MAF, Ported TB, ASP Pulley, LS6 intake manifold, TR224 112LSA Camshaft, Stage 2 ported heads with larger valves and 10.8-1 SCR 296cfm @ .600 lift, YT 1.7 Shaft Rollers, Longtube headers w highflow cats and merge collectors into a Corsa muffler.
EFILive PCM tune via Rapid Motorsports 420rwhp @ 396rwtq N/A.

Custom 3" exhaust past cat with 2 1/2" exhaust out to tail pipes. an electric cut out after the cat with a 3" dump out the side giving me a full 3" exhaust.

I did mild modifications to my TDI Golf in order to make it a bit more fun to drive. I simply HATE soft and undersprung vehicles.

I replaced my 15" wheels with 16" BBS two piece wheels. This was a cosmetic improvement only. I also installed a German drivers side rear view mirror that is curved to allow a wider range of visibility (aspherical mirror).

I replaced my suspension with springs and bushings from the European Golf. I replaced my rear torsion bar (VW's version of a sway bar) with the Euro GTI model and I installed Bilstein Sport dampers.

I changed the computer chip to give me a bit more torque from the little diesel but it does produce more smoke under full throttle.

My car is certainly no performance hot rod but it is incredibly fun to drive. I feel that this has made this car my favorite of all time. After seven years of ownership I don't see a replacement in the future.

linder....gotcha, nothing wrong with that! I have about the same thing in mind on my Accord. Yeah, those CAI are absolutely CRAZY priced for such an easy add-on. I've been looking at doing that to my car as soon as I can get around to it. Wonder why the transmission/battery setup is on the opposite side for the Civics as opposed to the Accords? Did you notice any difference once you got your system together? I keep hearing that you can expect large gains with a CAI on Honda's, but I've seen no dyno tests or anything like that yet. Just word of mouth.
